As someone working currently in advertisement, it can be very tempting to use AI to cleanup a customer provided image or graphic, its so hard, they request specific things that are literally unrealistic sometimes AI for photos or vectors like lifelike roman pillars on a perfect white background. Or edits of images that alter 90% of the image, it takes months to alter a image or vector from scratch to match what they want. Especially when your company is encouraging and paying for AI services.

What failure? There's 3 different styles of capitalization/punctuation (formal for the main black background parts, semi-formal header, and "cool hip" style for the description) to show that they're versatile. And quotation marks implying the opposite ("scare quotes") is far from the standard or only use of them. The ad is clear, concise, to the point, and shows options. Honestly seems like you're just looking for criticisms of someone trying to make ends meet. Poor show dude.

I'm very disappointed with the responses here. Someone puts in time and effort to try and fight against something bad, that is usually treated correctly as terrible here, and the majority of the responses are "you suck" bullying? It's criticism, it's not bullying. I finished with an illustration degree. We all had to criticize each other's works, and it was part of the grade. A couple of problems: 1) A person giving out cheap work in a field only cheapens the field. Example: If a union electrician charges $40/hour and you come along without any credentials charging $20/hour, you are devaluing the union job. 2) These adhoc micro jobs only compounds the already difficult reclassification of jobs in USA.

I know we hate AI, but as someone with an English degree - yikes. Missing capitalization and punctuation (im), bad grammar (missing "to" between trying and lower), misspelled "business" on a flier offering services to businesses. Not a very good advertisement. The most basic pass through any word processor would have gotten him more clients. And since when did pointing out errors become "bullying?" He may be an art "student," but if he wants to be an art "graduate" he needs to improve.

If all you do is point out errors, you risk breaking them down instead of building them up. The are ways to give feedback that come across as less hostile and more constructive. Instead of "The most basic pass through any word processor would have gotten him more clients", you could say "I noticed you had a couple of spelling mistakes in your advertisement. If you make a point of always double-checking your spelling, you will come across more professional and can attract more clients".

Missing capitalization and punctuation is not always a mistake, it's pretty standard in ads to look more youthful. Perhaps as an English major you're not an expert on how advertisements work and you need to stop assuming you are? And it's always been bullying to offer non-constructive criticism. If you knew the artist and were asked for feedback this kind of "you failed at basic stuff" could be useful, but here and now it's just being a dick for no reason.

Agreed with you guys. Kid is an art student, just trying to do some good in this world while improving on their skills. Yeah, just starting out their work won't be the best (mine sure tf wasn't). But that's the point of doing stuff like this for cheap when you're starting out; you're growing your skills as an artist and as a self-promoter.

The different typepography styles (that make it hard to read) are a feature.
First to grab your attention. If your attention is elsewhere and you miss the flier, the flier is useless.
Second, to require a little more time to read it. If it was formatted like regular prose, it would be too easy to skim and thus too easy to not internalise its message. Adding just a little bit friction actually makes the flier more likely to succeed.

That's normal logic, I couldn't cite a study for it but it's how people will react in reality. Same reason you proofread your resume, you can be the smartest person in the world but if you can't communicate that then no one will know.
