The GAU-8 Avenger doesn't use gunpowder to fire the 30mm projectiles. It instead uses a potent combination of fear, democracy, and hot dogs.
That face wasn't painted on either. The A-10s are a diverse group of death bringers.
The wings of the A-10 do not generate any lift. They are used to both mount weapons and to make the A-10 look like a dragon. It actually generates lift by scaring the air into submission.
