Some Nightmare-Fuel for Late-Night Imgur: Set 2

#1 Rubber Johnny

Rubber Johnny is a six-minute experimental short film and music video directed by Chris Cunningham in 2005, using music composed by Aphex Twin. The concept for Rubber Johnny came from Cunningham's imagining a raver morphing as he danced. The idea evolved to the present film, in which Johnny is an isolated deformed (possibly hydrocephalic) teenager kept on a wheelchair and locked in a dark basement with his chihuahua. The film was originally intended to be a 30-second TV commercial for the Aphex Twin album drukqs, using the track "afx237 v7". However, Cunningham grew to like the concept more and more and decided to expand the concept into a greater length (the original commercial remains in the film in an altered form.) The film was shot partially in infrared night vision on digital video.

#2 Operation Wandering Soul

"Operation Wandering Soul was a propaganda campaign exercised by U.S. Forces during the Vietnam War. The operation played off the belief of many Vietnamese in the "wandering soul":

"It is the Vietnamese belief that the dead must be buried in their homeland, or their soul will wander aimlessly in pain and suffering. Vietnamese feel that if a person is improperly buried, then their soul wanders constantly. They can sometimes be contacted on the anniversary of their death and near where they died. Vietnamese honor these dead souls on a holiday when they return to the site where they died."

U.S. engineers spent weeks recording eerie sounds and altered voices - which pretended to be killed Vietcong - for use in the operation, with the intended purpose of instilling a sense of turmoil within the enemy, the desired result being for the soldier to flee his position. Helicopters were sometimes employed to broadcast recordings, in which the voices called on their "descendants" in the Vietcong to defect and cease fighting."

#3 The Tromp family:

The Tromp family were by all accounts a normal, hard-working household.

Mark Tromp, 51, and wife Jacoba, 53, had established a successful redcurrant farm and earth-moving business at their property in Silvan, on the outskirts of the Victorian capital, Melbourne. But with little warning, on Monday 29 August they and their three adult children - Riana, 29, Mitchell, 25, and Ella 22 - got into a car and headed north.

They didn't just leave their family farm, they had fled.

Police, later called to the home to investigate, found passports, credit cards and mobile phones had been left behind. This was to be a cash-only, "off the grid" road trip, with no way of being followed. It was later revealed Mark and Jacoba had been suffering increasing signs of stress and paranoia. According to media reports, at least one of them had become convinced someone was out to kill them, and take their money. The only phone not left behind belonged to Mitchell. He appeared to be the only one in the family not swept up in the belief that they were in danger. He later said he had gone along to ensure they would all be safe, but that his parents became increasingly delusional and hard to tolerate.

Some 30km away from home, they made him throw his phone out of the car window. They were apparently convinced it was being used to track them. The family drove, in Ella's silver Peugeot SUV, through that first day and night until reaching the New South Wales town of Bathurst, 800km away, to the west of Sydney. It was there at 07:00 on Tuesday that Mitchell left the family.

And then there were four.

Later on Tuesday morning, the remaining four Tromps headed east from Bathurst to a popular tourist spot, the Jenolan Caves. It was there that Riana and Ella decided to also part from their parents. They did this by stealing a car. The two sisters drove south to the town of Goulburn, where they reported their parents had gone missing.

The story made its way into the media and a bemused Australian public wondered how a family could have become so strangely separated, and separately lost, on what was at first thought to have been a driving holiday - and in their own country. This was not remote territory, not the vast Australian outback. At all times they were close to large towns.

In Goulburn, Riana and Ella decided to part ways at a petrol station, with Ella saying she wanted to go home to feed her horses. She became the first Tromp to be located when she arrived back at the family farm on Tuesday night and found police there. Mitchell would arrive home the following morning, having taken a series of trains.

And then there were three.

While Mitchell and Ella appeared reasonably unaffected mentally, the same could not be said of Riana. She had climbed into the back of a utility vehicle in Goulburn, and was only discovered there by the male driver after he had driven almost an hour away. He pulled over and found Riana to be in what he called a catatonic state, saying she did not know her name, nor where she was. Riana was later taken to Goulburn hospital, where she remains in psychiatric care. Police say she has been spared charges over the stolen vehicle for mental health reasons. Ella, however, has been charged with car theft.

And then there were two.

As media interest grew, and an interstate search began, Mark and Jacoba drove back toward Melbourne from the Jenolan Caves. A day later on Wednesday, 600km south in the Victorian town of Wangaratta, they too became separated. Jacoba headed north again, by means which are still a mystery, and was found the next day 350km away in Yass, wandering in an agitated state. She was taken to a hospital there, and later moved to Goulburn to be with daughter Riana, as the pair continued mental health treatment.

Mark had stayed in Wangaratta. After dangerously tailgating a young couple, he was seen fleeing from Ella's Peugeot. Police also began investigating a number of break-ins in the town, including at a motel, though it's unclear if they were related.

Back at Silvan, Mitchell and Ella made an emotional appearance before the media, saying they were baffled by their parents' "paranoid" behaviour. "I've never seen anyone like this or anyone conduct themselves in this way. I just really want my dad to be found," Mitchell said. "He's not dangerous, he's my mate, my father. I love him."

And then there was one.

The last piece of the unusual puzzle was put into place on Saturday evening, six days after the episode began, when Mark Tromp was found beside a road near Wangaratta airport. He was questioned by police, assessed by a mental health officer, then released into the care of his police officer brother - showing the middle finger to photographers as he was driven away.

He later released a more contrite statement, apologising for "the hurt and concern caused by these events". He paid respect to the community resources devoted to his family's aid, as the public attempted to make sense of the drama.

Police do not believe there was any real threat to the family. One investigating police officer from the Silvan district described it as "the most bizarre case I've seen in 30 years".

About 2 . 5 hours into the webcast, I hear someone come into the house, which is odd, because my only housemate is at work, and we aren't expecting anyone. I realize I didn't check to see if the doors were locked before starting the webcast. I hear the person stealthily moving around the house, and then I hear them stealthily climbing the stairs, towards my room. My door opens, and I hear an unfamiliar male voice say "Hello?". Then, after presumably seeing me sitting still and smiling in front of a camera, lit from beneath by a florescent bulb, he promptly descends the stairs and exits the house.

As it turns out, the doors were locked, and he had broken one open. We found nothing missing, as there is not really anything of value in the house other than the laptop I was using to webcast. "

Is she sleeping is one of many weird videos you'll see on Memory Hole. Memory Hole is a youtube channel, that at first seems really fucking weird, but after you learn what it is, it's still really fucking weird. It seemed really bizarre until it was explained in a Vice interview, that Memory Hole is the rejected home videos that were sent to Americas Funniest Videos.

This one's almost impossible to explain, besides being a video obtained over the Dark-Web. There's no confirmed identity for any of the people, and noone has stepped forward claiming to have been involved. Theories range from: this as a video just made to fuck with people, all the way to: it being a man forced to eat his dead wife. So far there is no confirmed creator.

#9 The Bitterroot Footage

The story goes:

"In 2012, New York collage student Chad Logan went out looking for furniture for his new apartment on craigslist. Finding a match, he made his way to a garage-sale, and bought a table, that came with several other items that came with it for free. One of these items was an old wooden box with a lock on it. After he opened it with a screwdriver he discovered that inside there were 4 photo's with the word 'bitterroot' written on the back, and an 8mm film reel. There was 12 minutes of footage on the reel, but only 5 minutes could be salvaged."

It's almost guaranteed to be a hoax, as 'Chad' created his youtube account the same day as the first video, his website has not been updated, even though it says that there will be more, and he never responds to anyone.

Meet Shaye Saint John. She is described as a "model", and is shown in videos wearing a plastic mask, a series of wigs and dresses, and manipulating wooden hands on sticks. She is described as having been in a bus accident which resulted in the loss of her arms and legs. Instead of using prosthetics, she adopts mannequin parts, describing them as "fun" to use as replacement limbs. Saint John wears a series of masks throughout her videos, supposedly because she doesn't want anyone to see what she really looks like. Creator Eric Fournier has said "It's really bad, that's why she wears the mask".
