This was 5 hours before a flash flood came and washed that house down the river.
codpieceofjustice
That's some Lake Placid shit right there
eybex
I imagine early morning and sunset near a still lake in the summer would be INFESTED with mosquitoes.

Wasn’t that in Fallout 4 where those stupid mosquitos would kill you?

Not sure I'd want it over the water like that.
james25000
But can you hear the peace over the insane amount of frog and bugs screaming?
BigAdam
Kid on dream home; Big giant house, with a pool, and a big tv and and and. Now all I want is a shed in the woods, with another shed for DIY

classical conditioning from this site over years left me expecting something "off" in the reflection: ominous, dickbutt, etc but alas, peace

because of stranger things, I expected to see a monster on the reflection above the house...

Waldo is super easy to find in this picture. They ain’t even tryin any more.

Looks like the start to a horror movie.

I get really frustrated when people romanticize living away from society. It's a lot of fucking work, like a ridiculous amount of work.
TylerTumlin
All the hard work is part of what makes it great, you get that satisfied feeling of a day well spent
JudgementalMan
That's why people move to cities all the time.

I hear the same from my friends that have always lived in flats or apartments about having a house. "Must be nice, dig the garden, spend
time on improving something you own". Fuck that. I prefer a book.
pleaseuseotherdoor
But it's the kind of work I want to do. Work for me. Not for someone who doesn't appreciate it for almost no personal satisfaction. That 1/2
Kind of satisfaction is what I want. To sit in a house I built warmed by a fire I made and wood I chopped and a dog. Got a lady boner now.
You're not going to have as much comfort or free time as you think you will.
That is my comfort and free time. When I had time off, I would go out to the farm to work on projects and take care of the place. 1/
If I could find a way to make enough money to sustain myself and live out in a cabin, then I would do it tomorrow.
Fair enough then
joebuck123
I know firsthand. Some of us think it's an ok tradeoff. Wish I had better internet though.
WillemHellfire
I have Hughesnet satellite service. It works well for me. Sadly, it's not like the speeds in town.
Arcanum3000
In my experience, most people who pine for it have no clue.
Some people know, but a lot of these people are the same people who would say "I wish I lived in the 50s."
jdelossantos1494
I only want to live in that time so it can be okay to be drunk at work
Whwat
You seem a little upset
DarthMaulOfAmerica
I think they imagine living behind some trees, but still within a short drive of a town. Which I'd be down for
optimusgoose
So worth it though
RecoveringIntrovert
As someone else who's done it yeah it's a lot of work but it is very much deserving of being romanticized. It's worth the work and amazing.
gewalt
youre on the internet
Gremlynn4023
I imagine a high percentage of people who romanticize it underestimate how much work it really is.
That's what my point was but it seemed to go over the head of many.
Like they think yay pretty trees and fresh air and forget they gonna have to learn to butcher their own meat.
IKnowYouHateMeYes
Insects are the worst thing though.
Can confirm. It's not easy to live in the wilderness. It's worth it though.
Mgubbins
It takes more work to get that and moments of peace like that are incredibly short. Still better than living with people.
JuicyMuIIet
Growing up on a farm, I KIND of know, but not this extreme. I think most sane people would just want to get away for a week or so at a time.
Traja01
I think it's an escape for most of us. Like we don't want to live there, but it's nice to get away.
DrFeynman
I thought this was going to be a sad picture where the dog is gone in the reflection. +1 for not hurting the feels.
