Billionaires don't always sit on literally billions of dollars. A lot of that they put into assets and other shit that they use as collateral to get loans, giving them more money, which they use to buy more things they can use as collateral, allowing them to take out even more loans. It's a very broken system.
$8B isn't very much, approximately 2-3% of their annual budget. Rather than needing the money, I wonder if they're taking out a loan at an interest rate that is lower than the return they can gain from the money when interest rates around the world spike because of whatever bullshit distraction comes next...
They've been wasting trillions on insane failed mega projects like Neom because the prince is a fucking dumb ass. The man is truly dumber than a box of stupid rocks, not even regular rocks. This is a generational case of fumbling the bag. He's managed to basically bankrupt Saudi Arabia over a decade. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neom
I had heard about this a bit, wasnt there also or related to this, some long like mirrored wall that was a city they were planning, yet it also was extremely scaled down and then nothing really built.
That's the project, Neom the linear city that was gonna be basically one big building. Anyone with any kind of engineering or logistics expertise knew it was an insane bullshit tech bro concept with no basis in reality like colonizing mars. You know, because physics?
Yeah okay, sounded familiar although seemed different on wiki then the video i had watched. Wild, and yeah after watching that video I was always like, "yeah okay whatever."

Billionaires don't get rich using their own money. They get rich making other dumb assholes pay for the shit they want.

It's literally the real world equivalent of someone playing Cities:Skylines on infinite money mode then trying to play the game legit after.
