#1 pretty sure that's a Pileated Woodpecker. We have one in the woods behind us and that thing is LOUD. They're also huge.

Fun fact: many woodpeckers, pre-drill a series of holes into healthy trees. To encourage insects to move in. They farm them. They also kill perfectly healthy trees doing so. I had a beautiful snowball tree, then a woodpecker put several bands of holes and starved it.

I have an enormous callery pear in my front yard that one made HEAVY work of something like ten years ago. Holes every 1 inch or so for about two feet around the tree, and about two inches between each row for something like six feet up the tree.
