Same med a month ago was $30. This is with insurance. I am so sick of fighting for our benefit every time we need to use it. Healthcare is so messed up in our country. Even for those with insurance. #dontgetsick Send funny pics so this doesn't set the tone for the night. #health #money

I had a stomach infection which caused a lot of vomitting. Now have teeth problems. 7k to fix it all. 5k after insruance. Yaaaaay

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

what the f***....pay like $5 for most meds in Australia if you're not earning enough at work/don't have work and are on centrelink (dole)

our only shitty thing is the long wait times in hospitals but other than that no complaints

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

As a CMA, I deal w/ ins companies all the time to try and get meds covered for people. It has become RIDICULOUS.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

To have to show proof someone needs omeprazole is fucking stupid as hell.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

OP, please make sure your PCP's office is actually doing prior auths for her medications.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I have to pay about $300 a month for my RX because it's not "preventative"

9 years ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 0

I'm on over 20 meds a month. My cost is about $200 or so. But when my insurance lapsed a month I paid $4000 for my meds. Yea it sucks ass

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Woah, dude. How's your liver?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Honestly my liver is 100% ok

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yes! I mean, ok, you're a total stranger to me, but I'm still glad that it can keep up with all those meds. :D One trouble less.

Call around to other pharmacies. My husband had a prescription that was $800 at one, 250 at another, and $13 at Costco. Seriously.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Yes. Price matching is much better for the pharmacy and the patient than the sketchy discount cards

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

@Op leave the us and Come to Australia it might actually be cheaper.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Australia is going full American these days. 12 times the average income for the average place in Sydney and healthcare is being dismantled.

Schizo medicine is $1000. For one of my 5 medications. I hit my deductible, and out-of-pocket by Feb every year. I feel ya brother!

9 years ago | Likes 59 Dislikes 0

I pay about the same in full every month, even in Canada.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I just gotta say, kudos to you for paying out of pocket and staying on your meds

9 years ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 0

Thank you. I'm the rare high-functioning schizophrenic, so I get by. But it's... it's hard. It hit 3 years ago, and it's so wildly different

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Given the condition and the price of meds it's quite admirable that you earn enough to afford it. Should be more affordable of course.

9 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

It hit my last semester of college. I'm high-functioning, but most days I barely feel like it. At least meds gimme a bit of life to keep!

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You mean the meds that help you keep you a part of functioning society are priced almost out of your reach? What the almighty fuck

How come America is so behind when it comes to healthcare? (Australian here)

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

It's really complicated- most don't realize that if their taxes go up, their monthly insurance bills will go down (education here is 1/?

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

also sub-standard) -- Aaand the people that make the laws are convinced (bribed) by lobbyists to pass laws in favor of insurance 2/?

Because America has to be special, we can't adopt good ideas that work everywhere else because that would be ~socialism~

I go to Canada to get my insulin. Even with insurance, it's about $100 every 3-4 weeks.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Had to stop taking my psych meds because I can no longer afford them nor insurance. May as well just become homeless & get it over with.

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

That really sucks. I'd be screwed without my psych meds. Are you able to move to a state with better insurance options for low income ppl?

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Well, when I ever stop taking mine in a year or so, I'll make sure to still get them and send them to you. :) Though, what do you need? /1

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Might be the wrong stuff. And how much do they cost you, I never know actual prices here in Germany, just pay my 10€ for a 100-pack.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Haha, thanks! I was on a lot of stuff, & i'm in the US so i'm not sure it would work. Didn't help much anyhow. Would love to be in Europe.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Aren't there cheaper meds with the same active components? Generica? What do you need, if you don't mind me asking?

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I was on Cymbalta, Buspar, Gabapentin, & Propranolol. I've been on cheaper stuff before, but it's all kinda pricey without insurance.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Plus, the biggest hurdle really is the $150-$300 just to see a psychiatrist around here.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

That is very scary. Where do you live? And what have you tried in terms of financial assistance from the state/drug companies/federally qual

Florida, it's not a kind state to people in need. I filed for disability, but was rejected (common) so i'm not sure about a next step.

ified health centers near you/anything else? I truly hope you are able to find a solution.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Maybe you need preauthorization? Or they changed their formulary?

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

We actually did call for pricing ahead of time. They provided incorrect info to us. There is no recourse just a plastic "sorry".

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yeah they probably just quoted the copay from last time thinking it would be the same. But there is not much they can do if the ins wont pay

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Which drug was it, only if you don't mind me asking?

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Also, it sounds like you may need to meet your yearly deductible, from the small amount of information I have from this post. Either way, I

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

think insurance can do some shady things sometimes

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

The pharmaceutical industry is a shady business... from manufactures down to owners.. marking up prices of the drug when it really costs $1

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I think it depends on who exactly, but you aren't wrong. I know of some independent owners who just try to keep their doors open. I don't li

Well what's the medicine? Usually there are cheaper alternatives for most. Unless it's a rare problem

DM me if your serious! I'll tell you my entire sob story.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yeah. I lost an asthma inhaler once. The pharmacy demanded $300 to.replace it. Insurance bud of mine says real cost is $1.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

Sorry, no inhaler costs $1 for the pharmacy. Cheapest is the rescue albuterol inhalers for about 50. All other scheduled ones cost $$$

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Sorry, but it's not the pharmacy's fault the insurance won't pay for it. If it happens again call the ins for a lost rx override

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

I never, ever blame the pharmacy. Those folks are my friends, and I know it's not their fault.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Really? I take albuterol and it costs me $50, are you taking something else?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

No, the $1 was the wholesale cost per inhaler for the insurance company. This was a lost steroid inhaler I needed to replace.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That is what I meant, albuterol is the steroid inhaler, It costs me $50 to get it from the pharmacy. was wondering what inhaler costs $300

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Albuterol is a bronchial dialator, also known as your "rescue inhaler". The steroid is a slower acting anti-inflammatory 1/2

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

And can be MUCH more expensive. I seem to remember that it was $300 to replace an advair I had lost, and they wanted the 2/3

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You could get re-married for less

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

NHS prescription in England has gone up by 20p to £8.60 per item. In Wales and Scotland there is no charge.

9 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 2

They're free if you are on benefits, over 60, under 16, pregnant or have an exemption. You can also buy a 12 month certificate for £104

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

No charge in Northern Ireland either

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

So that's how you've kept them in the kingdom.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah, may be expensive here but my daughter would be in BAD shape on British NHS. I've read the post of Brit parents.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

How so? Americans routinely get gouged on medications so even if the medications are not on NHS you'd still pay less.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

My daughter has a rare disease. Brits wait a year or more to see the specialist. Meds are not the issue. Time is.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You're telling me there's no wait time where you are? Specialists are specialised so there's normally a wait time of months no matter where.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

How so? Meds are basically free regardless of diagnosis and you're rarely told to change unless adverse effects.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Daughter has rare disease. Brit parents with kids with the same disease wait year or more to see their specialist for vague answers/help.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Just an anecdote but a 'murcan friend of mine was in Scotland for a year and had a hell of a time getting pillz he needed to function

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

idk if it's easier for citizens

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's considered a value of citizenship, same thing with not claiming food stamps as a tourist; you have to be a citizen.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah but aside from the question of who pays, it should be POSSIBLE for postdocs (not tourist per se) to get pills

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

There are circumstances wherein you HAVE to pay and wait for treatment if you're not a citizen. It's not always free for everyone.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

No person should have needed healthcare withheld becuase they can't pay for it. That's the definition of wrong.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

My diabetes strips and meds are given by family. Haven't had dental work in many years. Can't see a therapist, etc. etc. etc.

Should implies an obligation. Don't put your obligation on me.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That's the everyday here for many of us in the US

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

a luxury, was cheaper than going through the process of figuring out what is wrong. This is with $600-a-month insurance through my employer.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

the united states pays more per capita than anyone else but gets so so so much less

9 years ago | Likes 63 Dislikes 3

I would argue that we probably get more. But we are indeed having to pay more to get it. And it helps out the rest of the world too

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You could, beliefs aren't always guided by reality. The strawmen you'd need to defend that position are fairly obvious.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

I haven't misconstrued your opinion, so there is no straw man at the present. I simply think your view is incorrect and provided extra info

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

People assume that because we're paying more we must be getting something better. Good luck trying to tell them they're getting conned.

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

As an American living out of US. To hell with US insurance companies. There is a better way.

Because lobbying

I've been using an app called GoodRx. It shows you the price at several local pharmacies so you can compare - could help.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

Also

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

However, those don't work with insurance billed too, and they don't pay very well on name brand meds, which based on price, this probably is

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That's because goodrx doesn't ever "pay" anything. Its just a card that "lowers" the price and collects fees and your information

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Please just ask the pharmacy to price match them or another store if possible. Goodrx is the devil

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

i have literally never paid more than 10€ for any medication. most expensive is anti baby pill for my so. its about 15€ a month.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It's actually not that expensive here if you have insurance; it's more a statement on that bloody awful shot

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Not sure if you're up for it. I get constant migraines and so I got a cannabis card and ordered some topica. It works for me and it's $20

9 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 0

I get migraines a lot and since I live in Washington, I figured I'd try weed to help when I had one. Didn't do shit for it. =(
