Conservatism is pure stupidity plain and simple. Conservatives crave a time in their past and forget that their parents hated that time and wanted to go to their own past. A conservative today wants what was liberal yesterday. Conservatism is a mental disability.
I'll bet every single penny I own that, if told to murder every single human in San Francisco, there would be no problem finding a general to lead the charge, and no chance any other general would dare to interfere....they'd just write about it afterwards
The oath is not being upheld. “I, [name], do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic. “
Just imagine what the US would look like if conservatives actually did believe in slow, measured change and responsibility. Just for a second. You're thinking of Democrats. We have conservatives and reactionaries, and maybe a dozen actual progressives.
Let's not forget the West Point Association of Graduates - just weeks ago - cancelled its original plan to honor Tom Hanks with the Sylvanus Thayer Award for his advocacy for veterans and positive portrayal of service members. Sad that the Association is SO TERRIFIED of negative comments by "Dear Leader" & Faux News they'd crawl on their bellies. COWARDICE !
I'm afraid 'The 6' have such a missionary zeal for their vision of the Constitution that the death of any one President will not deter them from taking the Constitution back to 1855 at the latest.
I think if the military takes out the pres it's not just business as usual. If the intent is for them to fix the problem and not just an independent power grab then probably military control until unrest dies down then full replacement of every branch of government hopefully with new safeguards in place to prevent something like this happening again.
This. Here’s the problem with those “Leaders of Character.” They can act on their conscience, but they are not the ones who will eventually decide whether the order was lawful or not. Who will? The cronies appointed by the administration. Who decides if those Leaders remain in power? The cronies appointed by the administration. The oath is intended to provide an opportunity for leaders to challenge corrupt commands, but it only works if there is someone else to confirm their dissent.
The GOP, not Trump. He's dumber than shit and can't even read the bills they push in front of him. He's just the tool they're using to do all their work.
Im pretty sure there’s precedent to show that you literally are not actually allowed to disobey a direct order no matter how illegal or dumb or open and shut against the law in the military and you’ll be court martialed if you do.
Im not in the military myself, but i have heard that the idea disobedience is allowed, even in the above circumstances is a myth.
You may be right. My question, also as a civilian who never served, is, could a court-martial possibly be worse than a civilian criminal court sentence, say, for multiple voluntary manslaughter or a possible murder charge? If you intentionally killed civilians while "following orders," & you were captured or your side lost the conflict, you're eligible for a murder rap if my memory serves. The Nuremburg trials proved that a defense of "I was following orders" does not exonerate a war criminal.
That speech got a very cold reception from the military. It was very "ok we did our required listening, now we're off to the officer's club to drink till we forget every word of it"
Yeah, it gave me a tiny bit of hope. Kegsbreath doesn't garner a shit ton of respect from these generals & admirals, being a former "major" who washed out of the reserves due to his racist hate message tatts. Clearly not a "team" player in the first place, & a known quitter at that (he resigned), fat-shaming these lifetime career servicemembers who actually know what they're doing wasn't such a hot plan. What a complete bozo. Then pee47 shambles up to slur his usual blather of disjointed slop.
As soon as they try to make any of these people, especially senior leaders, in the military swear to some new oath to trump then you know beyond ANY doubt it's fascism.
I mean, they won't They'll just order them to open fire on American citizens, and they probably will. I wish they'd actually do something, it'd be the cleanest way we get out of this mess, but I only give it like a 10% chance

The big weakness of this boast is that it is up to SCOTUS to say what is Constitutional.

Trump has found a way around this: fire all the JAGs, and so members of the military don't have any advice on what's illegal anymore. https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2025/09/19/hegseth-national-guard-military-lawyer-purge/

"Trump" at this point is shorthand for "the Trump administration." Besides, firing lawyers is his favorite pastime anyway.
