The neighbor's unfriendly outdoor cat wandered into our house one day. My mom's dog was upstairs and didn't even notice. My dad's great Dane ran away. My cat, despite being about half his size, chased him down and beat him up until he left and never came back.
My cat came running home to tell our pit bull about the bullies and Molly followed him to let them know Pirate had a pitty mammy and she looked after her babies.
I was listening to Duke Ellington while watching this and was impressed how they chose the perfect soundtrack. Then I remembered that's MY soundtrack, lol.
My household feeds a stray cat every day. He often sleeps on our stoop, and is very sweet. He loves to be pet. But he's too scared to come inside, because one of our damn indoor cats keeps attacking him. Would love to know how to get him to chill out.
Indoor/Outdoor cats aren't seen as *that* bad, right? We make sure our cats are nice and full before they get to go lounge in the sun outside and are spayed/neutered. I know cats can run rampant on bird populations, but I can assure you the birds are doing fine here with these two rolling around in the grass.
It would not surprise me at all if the "cats kill a gajillion birds a year" stuff is propaganda from pesticide companies, just like the "almonds cause drought" bullshit from the meat/dairy industry.
Decimating local bird and rodent populations isn't about hunger. Cats are basically little invasive predators that have all their needs met which doesn't mean they do nothing, it means they have time to idly pursue their leisure activities. Like killing. Also lounging in the sun. But killing is a pretty big part of it.
I just don’t understand why some outdoor cats are so mean to other cats. We had one guy here like that and I hoped he’d be friendlier to the others after I got him fixed but nope, he remained a jerk until a younger cat finally fought back and taught him whose yard it was first
Cats are not by nature group-living creatures, they descend from solitary species. In some cats, this instinct remains strong, and any other cat around is a rival for resources, especially for strays.
