Astrology for the most part is just harmless fun as far as I'm concerned but people who base everything about themselves and their life on it are dumb fucks.

Yeah, that's a very Sagittarius thing to do /s

Astrology is just stupid BS, like sooo many old views on what wasn't explainable
Long ago ppl tried to put humans into boxes and decided to invent the "signs" to correlate with the stars and all that. It was just another attempt to explain stuff we couldn't yet explain otherwise. Almost as brilliant as saying the plants cure the ills in the organs they most look alike.

2/2 Science is something beautiful.
Facts are facts!
They can and are proven and with reproducible results. Science does not care about opinions, the facts don't care who you are, where you're from, don't care what you did as long as you love them!
BSB aside, facts are facts and they do not care about anything, they just are!

5 days ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yeah, I'd say that reproducibility is the main reason science is useful and religion/astrology/superstition/etc is not. It allows you to DO things and PREDICT (or cause) the outcome.

Who would have thought that using an Iraqi farmer's almanac to predict your personality, and fortune, would be somewhat flawed.

Learning to talk about astrology, tarot, and palm reading got me many dates back in the day.

5 days ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Who told you you was a Virgo?

5 days ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Astrology is almost as stupid as math. Trust me, I'm a physicist.

5 days ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 6

Well, I do believe that the stars and planets affect your life. Some of them, at least. For example, today I'm feeling a bit under the weather because a certain star has been shining above my head all day and I didn't bring a hat >:( (man, it's hot as balls)

It's the same with Myers-Briggs. It amazes me how many people buy into that shit, (I often hear it called the business man's horoscope) You might think it was put together by a psychologist, and that they did some sort of testing to form the categories, right? NOPE! It was made by a woman who read a single Carl Jung book, and decided to start categorizing people (something Jung specifically called out as childish in said book) to sell her services.

Incidently, that same person was a big

It's really weird to me that myers briggs is still so widely used and taken seriously in the business world. I feel like most non-morons know astrology and tarot are laughable nonsense. MBTI is less absurd than those things as it removes the supernatural component, but it's still made up nonsense. It's a ridiculous oversimplification of a human to boil them down to 4 letters with binary values.

5 days ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

The value isn’t in identifying yourself but in thinking about other communication styles to help you work with other types of people.

Self labeling is actually a bit more destructive. A means to an end I guess.

5 days ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

supporter of eugenics and racial segregation, and wrote books on both subjects.

But the entire mechanism of the Myers-Briggs system is just that it takes a person's self assessment and spits out generaly empty and easily malleable results that easily fit within almost anyones interpretation based loosely on the said self assessment. In other words, it's exactly the same as astrology.

Studies have shown that as many as 76% of participants will chance "personalities" from one test to the next

5 days ago | Likes 37 Dislikes 0

I think it's important to consider that these ideas—like BMI as a measure of health—might stick around because they are useful for arbitrarily including and excluding people. Often, people like them precisely because they can be used to confirm their biases.
Glad to see you spell out the history, though, that shit has a chokehold on so many people...

5 days ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

For those who want something like this but with a bit more scientific support, look into the Big Five personality trait model, sometimes referred to by the acronym OCEAN, for Openness, Conscientiousness, Extraversion, Agreeableness, and Neuroticism. The traits are scored on spectra rather than dividing people into categories.

5 days ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

MBTI is also scored on spectra

5 days ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

MBTI divides people into binary categories based on questions about spectra (e.g, an "I" for introverted, or an "E" for extroverted). Big Five gives a score that indicates a position on the continuum, rather than making everything binary. The science on it is still not super robust, but it's a lot better regarded than Myers-Briggs.

4 days ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I've administered MBTI professionally. The tests results show you your position on the continuum. I'm not defending MBTI, but I can confidently tell you that this thing you are claiming makes Big Five better than MBTI, MBTI has that.

4 days ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I bought into ot for a while because I literally learned about it in a college psychology class.

3 days ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That...tragic. Unless it was some sort of example of manipulation or self fulfilling suggestions, but given the context of your statement, I'm guessing that's not the case.

3 days ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It was like 20-25 years ago, so maybe it hadn't been debunked yet? I don't know.

It was never bunked enough to need to be de-ing! (Yes, that was pointlessly worded oddly, but I have to amuse myself somehow!)

Astrology is for morons. And not trying to sound misogynistic, but why are the vast majority of astrology believers women? Genuine question

5 days ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 2

sounds like something a Libra would say ...

5 days ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

I don't know if I'd say women are more prone to believe in this sort of stuff more than men (it's not like sports superstitions are any more logical). However, if I had to guess, I'd say that magical thinking in general (religion) is more attractive the less control you have over your life. It helps for humans to believe that there's a knowable path through the chaos rather than just chaos. And women have it pretty bad in a lot of situations.

5 days ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Ya I guess that makes sense to look at it that way. And ya sport’s superstitions are dumb af too lol

5 days ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Men love to shit on astrology and tarot specifically because women use them, but heaven forbid you point out their dumbfuck sports superstitions and gambling "strategies." Such self-righteous stones, such fragile glass egos. Look. You find a real way to accurately determine a shark's personality with little inference material while being chum in the dating pool, and that will immediately replace all other attempts to control and quiet the certainty that dating is unsafe.

5 days ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 13

Or like, 'Alpha/Beta/Sigma' male etc.

5 days ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I find atrology, tarot, superstitions, and gambling all to be a waste of time, or worse, actively detrimental if you really buy into them. Well, unless you're doing them just for fun. (There are worse ways to spend an evening than slowly spending $20 at a poker table chatting and drinking with friends.)

Generally speaking, I find trying to put people into categories is just a way to create in and out crowds. Us vs Them. I have better things to do with my time!

5 days ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

As a woman.... no, it's because it's ridiculous bullshit.

Believe what you want, but this is not a man v. woman thing. The second half of your tirade is just gibberish that I suspect is based on your personal experiences and should not be extrapolated to include all people in any one category.
Hope life treats you better.

5 days ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

https://penntoday.upenn.edu/news/dating-partners-more-violent-and-account-more-domestic-violence-spouses 82% of intimate partner abuse comes from dating, not marriage. You can call it gibberish because you are among the lucky 2/3rds of women who never face physical violence or rape. Wish two of my sisters were as fortunate. But most men all seem so nice, until they are not. Astrology is like religion - it's comforting to think it can protect you with pat answers even though it can't.

My mom believes in astrology so I tried this the last time she brought it up. I read my horoscope for the day and she said it made sense because “you’re a cancer”, only to reveal it was her horoscope. It’s amazing how we still have people thinking the positions of stars and planets at your birth have any influence over your personality.

5 days ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 1

I always found the Chinese Zodiac even stranger because it's based on the year you were born. So every single person born in the same year has a similar personality? Five minutes in any classroom will teach you otherwise.

5 days ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

If Astrology works, then how can twins have wildly different personalities?

5 days ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

They're all Geminis! Wait...

5 days ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

It really bums me out that stuff like astrology and tarot are still actually believed in 2026. It feels really embarrassing and anachronistic.

I can't imagine why people are downvoting Weird Al. Especially when some assface just copied my comment word for word, and it's got a bunch of upvotes.

5 days ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Step 1: copy comment containing YouTube link, replacing YouTube with shady site you're monetizing.
Step 2: have a swarm of bots upvote your comment so that it gets visibility.
Step 3: have the same bots downvote the original comment so that people can't see that you stole it.

This shit has been going on for months on Imgur. The site admins know and won't do shit about it. It's frustrating because it punishes legitimate commenters like you. :'(

5 days ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Astrology is a way for people to selectively hate other people while having a scapegoat for everything that goes wrong in your life. They're incredibly vulnerable to conspiracy theories and ignore facts. Tell me that's not Misogynists

5 days ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 3

Because astrology is not enjoyed or followed, or whatever, exclusively by women.

5 days ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Misogyny isn't exclusive to men

5 days ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

Better than that, astrology was developed as an April Fool's joke by a right-wing rag (I think the Telegraph in 1928). It was popular enough that they continued, and other Brit newspapers followed the bandwagon.

5 days ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 3

Astrology is BS, but it dates back to ancient Mesopotamia, not 1928.
