In October 2016 I went on my honeymoon. I was away for 6 weeks. When I arrived back at work this is what my desk looked like... Custom build laptop stand too!
Tens of Thousands of Water Beads
RGB Lighting and all... yellow/green here
and red!
A combination of large balls were included
The feeling of running your hands through them was rather satisfying
but somewhat slimy...
They had been on my desk for a couple weeks before i arrived... many could not resist the urge to touch them...
Close up of the custom built enclosure, full to the brim...
So many balls!
One guy was the mastermind of this and I was absolutely floored to arrive at work to this monstrosity.
There has been a tradition of messing with peoples desks in our team. A new desk prank has just happened and it reminded me of the effort that was put into mine. I thought I would share for all to enjoy.
FRONT PAGE EDIT: Most Viral on my first ever post! Thanks All!
Seem's you're all interested in the 6 week holiday though, its not uncommon for people in australia to take long holidays. If you work a couple years without taking days off you accrue them and often companies will encourage you to take the time off. Not to mention long service leave (12 weeks after 10 years?).
I found a couple more images of the cleanup process, dehydrated balls are interesting too. https://imgur.com/a/Pt02v
Have found some images of past efforts and the new one will be finished Monday. Will upload more next week!

Honestly, I'd just have put a plexi lid over it and left it that way. Watered them once in a while. Maybe added a lizard.
WhatIsUpMyFriends
Just put a plate of glass over the top and leave it as decoration.
NerdN1
Should have pretended not to notice. No cracking a grin or acknowledging it. Just simple efficient work. Screw with 'em.
Meilkor
Okay but isn't that kind of a huge germ trap of a desk?
Firelump
Wonderbland
Damn. I have to use my vacation before the year over or I lose it. We have a max of 120 hrs.
vag3bont
Thanx 4 for sharing????

Everyone so shocked by 6 weeks? I'm also in Oz and I'm allowed 3 months if i want. It wouldn't all be paid but 1 month would be. Normal
PardusXY
The bacteria...

it did become very slimy... and less than hygienic... hence the deconstruction and dehydration

How did they even clean that up?
CynicalEnergy
Over a couple weeks with a fan pointed at the balls they dried up back to the original size

6 weeks vacation is the norm(Holla from the Nordics), I'm just amazed you guys got time at work to do stuff like this.

The prank is cool and all.....but can we hear more about that 6 week vacation?! ...that boggles my mind!

Australia
CynicalEnergy
We went to Hawaii, then did 3 week west us road trip, then DC and New York for a week. Plus the week off before the wedding
Unicorndance
Australian here - we did 8 weeks trip across America in 2016 - had 2 years worth of holidays saved up :)
myfirstaccountwasshadowbanned
2 years for me it's 1 month, and that's better than many Americans lol
Yonbert
So on your first day back you just sat there playing with your balls?
CynicalEnergy
pretty much :D

CynicalEnergy
Pretty much the bosses reactions too
PostmasterG
What was the new prank?
CynicalEnergy
The latest has essentially turned two desks into a fake garden. It's very green and flowery.
PostmasterG
You should take and post some pictures!
CynicalEnergy
Will most likely do that. I also have a set of photos of what was done his desk in reply to this...

Americans reading about the fabled six-week vacation:
gastricityman
Can relate, worked in the same place for 12 years, 4 weeks is what I get. I thought that was good till i heard in Australia it would be 12.
Mercenarity

Everyone shocked about the amount of holiday time... Lol, Americans. (Here in the UK it's often a similar 4 weeks + 2 weeks unpaid possible)
PhilipCoulson
I was more thinking how one could AFFORD a 6-week trip. Hotels are expensive!
Proudfoots
There are plenty of places in America that allow that much vacation. Just have to remember Imgur is full of primarily younger ppl who 1/2
Froggie243
Lolol I had 11 days when I started and I have to spend them to move around the country.
Iworktosavethetatas
It is hard for me to take 1 full week off. I tried 2 weeks once and all hell broke loose. I'm currently sitting on 43 days vacation bank.
TheFragnatic
That may be true, but in most countries (except 7 including the US) there's a statutory minimum paid leave per year.
Proudfoots
Have not advanced that far in their careers. Granted in most cases it might be a bit of a challenge to take 6 weeks at once. 2/2
GymMatMeat
That is the issue. You may have the time, but usually no way you can take it all. Staffing is too tight.
ACESandEIGHTZ
You went on a 6 week honeymoon? Damn
Elonth
why is no one talking about how they managed to find a water proof tank that specifically fits that table with an odd shape and leaves room
CynicalEnergy
the effort was amazing, it was built at home by one of the guys and brought into the office a piece at a time.
CatBlaster5000

OMGChris
Or he just saved up for it for a long time. You can travel cheap too. Travel doesn't have to be as expensive as everyone makes it out to be

I went on a 52 week honeymoon! My wife and I traveled around the world for a year after we got married
AkUrbanPanda
my wife and I saved up for 8 months working 2-3 jobs each so we could quit out jobs and leave for 3 months
eatmyjuicyturd2
That’s impressive. Props. Was it as fun as you hoped?
AkUrbanPanda
it was life changing... and so liberating to only have what we could carry on our backs. We made so many memories to start our life together
eatmyjuicyturd2
Sounds pretty awesome.
aDapperBear
That's really fucking cool.
LatrineUsedToBeShitHouse
So you're on a 3 month honeymoon and both unemployed? Isn't that stressful?
OMGChris
I wouldn't think so. Sounds like they worked really hard to have a cushion to make it happen and be ok when they got back.
AkUrbanPanda
we were homeless too... it was fantastic

orty
Why get rid of it? Fill it with resin, make a desktop out of it.
Warkitten21
But then no squish
bigbrother
that might not work. when hydrated, the polymer balls may release water inside the resin causing it to not adhere, possibly ruining the mix.
orty
Ugh... Yeah that wouldn't work. But if there were a way to make it work, it would look very cool.
wakkawakkabeepboop
Balls deep in pranks.
AintYaPapey
Right? Lol.
Rehoy
1.) WHere do you work that allows for a 6 week vacation, that's like a fantasy work place, 2.) why does your boss allow that?
CynicalEnergy
2) keep up morale I guess. No company property damaged and was generally done out of hours
FatLemongrab
Australia. A lot of companies give 6 weeks by default especially government
SparkyShowers
Worked 10 years for a casino, took 2 weeks off every other year or so, when I left I had over 550 hours PTO accrued they had to pay out.
CynicalEnergy
1) Australia - I earnt that many days paid leave over a couple years and was allowed to take it in a large chunk just because...
pepsiikun
Canadian here. From my exp, office jobs start you at 2 weeks vacation and after 10+ years of working you earn 4 or more weeks. At my job--
pepsiikun
--you also need special permission to take more than one week off in a row. And paid vacation is only for salaried workers. (I'm part-time.)
pepsiikun
We also can't build vacation days over several years, we have to use all our vacation each year or it disappears.
WacknCheese
Ahh come one cousins, you're letting the colonial side down! guess its the proximity to those wonderful an interesting masochists next door
FatLemongrab
I always take six weeks a year, 4 weeks paid 2 unpaid.
Kleverin
In Sweden we have 25 days paid leave every year. The law says you have to be able to take out 4 weeks (20 days) in a row at summer.
TheFragnatic
The 4 weeks in a row isn't statutory. Though many unions have it in their agreement.
Rehoy
Everywhere employer near me, never gives more than a 5 days a year. Where the hell do you live?
yamidan
In Australia it is illegal for an employ to deny vacation time if you have it accrued unless there is justifiable reason e.g. critical job.
WalrusPhone
Jesus Christ! do you work in literal hell?
IAmTheBadW01f
5 days? Come on....2 weeks is pretty standard around here to start with, more later on. We get 2 weeks vacation, plus something like 1/
IAmTheBadW01f
7 sick days and 3 PTO days (PTO can be divided up with a couple hours here and there for appointments and stuff) 2/2
BishlamekGurpgork
FIVE DAYS a year?? What country are you in? I think even shitty US law mandates two weeks, right? (As a gov't employee, we get x per two
BishlamekGurpgork
Weeks, based on seniority, so I'm not positive about the law for private sector)
EatsBees
I've worked for companies that did not provide any vacation time or sick time
BishlamekGurpgork
I was mistaken. Still, I had the impression two weeks is pretty damn common.
LupusIgnis
Danish law states five weeks of paid vacation per year and a guarantee to have three of them in a row.
Invyggle
Similar in Sweden also if you have a kid under 9 you get extra weeks. For dads) not sure what the rules are for mothers if they get more etc
Promethianfire
What kind of place grants a 6 week vacation?
Shikari23
Most of America seems to start at 2 weeks and build up to 4 after a number of years. Rarely do companies allow rollover.
MaladaptedMedic
Somewhere outside America
ranivotz
In Sweden most people, at least in public service, have at least 6 weeks a year. Plus you can save some to next year.
Flossugar
The same kind of place that would tolerate the above shenanigans.
WacknCheese
Convict origins an all that mate
anotherdickat
everywhere but the US.
stercusmoriturussum
Germany here - 30 days of vacation. Add public holidays and overtime compensation. Taking it in one block is neither usual nor impossible.
darkstorm47
when i started at an underground mining company in Canada they start you off with 4 weeks per year and after 15 you get 8 weeks.
SweatyNuN
Working for a company in the uk where i get 30 days a year holiday. Its uncommon to find that though.
TheFragnatic
According to wikipedia, the UK has the second highest amount of statutory paid leave days at 28.
SweatyNuN
Thats 28 including bank holidays. Mines 30 not including bank holidays so 38 i should say is what i get not 30
thefrompleman
most developed nations
AndersV
Denmark has 6 weeks by law - you are though welcome to not use them but most companies actually force you to.
Promethianfire
How the heck does that work for small businesses?
TheFragnatic
It's 2 weeks by law, rest by unions. You don't HAVE to employ through the union, family/friends business will often choose not to.
rnantis
The owner just moves their ass and do the work. Or just employs two people instead of one who can do the thing.
Promethianfire
And has to raise prices to cover the extra labor cost and can't compete with the bigger companies.
dingofdong
UK here - all full time workers are legally entitled to 28 days of paid holiday a year (I.e. days off where you still get paid)
Favri
I'm going to guess you live in the US....
7009
Switzerland had the chance to vote for mandatory 6 weeks holiday but the people said No
Flamesonthesideofmyface
I don't know why everyone is so surprised? I work in the us, get four weeks a year, bonus week every five years, and I can carry over.
Promethianfire
I run a small business. It would be extraordinarily difficult to do that. I give my guys 1 week, and even that's rough. I'm usually work
Promethianfire
-ing a 60 hour week when one of them (there are two) is out.
Flamesonthesideofmyface
My boss recently got back from a month long cruise, I took off five weeks the year I got married. It's not THAT uncommon over here.
polkadotcardi
After 10 years with my company I accrue a max of 5 weeks, but there’s no way in hell I could ever take all 5 weeks without major backlash.
Flamesonthesideofmyface
I work for a Fortune 500 company, so I don't know if that makes a difference. Projects are figured out quarters ahead of time, so if you
Flamesonthesideofmyface
Know someone will be out for a wedding/ vacation/maternity leave, we just plan accordingly. It's never been an issue for any project of mine
AnaFin
I get 6 weeks PTO/year at the publishing company I work for in Oregon, but I've been there over 12 years...
AnaFin
I'd definitely have a hard time taking it all at once though.
OneBoiledCabbage
I'm really lucky and where I am I get 6 weeks paid leave plus bank holidays! Reward for long service. (UK based)
CynicalEnergy
Most companies in Australia grant 4 weeks a year. You can hold on to that leave, bank it over time and use it as permitted...
AnnieRyouOK
I just left physical work 40-50hrs/week often 10days straight(I have worked 1mnth straight)fulltime-only 10unpaid vaca days/year&no benefits
ContagiousOutrageous
Straya! Sound cunts
ImJustGod
In Denmark it's 5 weeks. Though where I work I can't bank it over sadly :( Would have been nice..
DW223
In NSW we get 8.67 weeks long service leave after 10yrs. I've only gotta wait another 10 months til that magical number :)
Cheomesh
Damn. 6 years with my company and I've gotten a touch over 3 weeks IF I save up all my PTO.
Davros876
Same in the uk, i get 30days paid holiday a year + 8 public holidays
WacknCheese
Its the law! Minimum 4 weeks annual leave for every cunt here in Aus. An 12 weeks extra every 10 years. Even better in Europe. Cunts!
angylmus
A mate has saved over 400hrs paid leave...which means almost 5wks off. He works 7on/7off, so he can take it, and get total 12wks off paid. →
angylmus
← or cash it in at $37/hr = $14,800 before tax. He's saving to add it to long service leave next year. 12w work+12w break+5w paid+7w extra →
angylmus
← equals 36 weeks paid leave if he wants it. Almost a whole year of paid leave. Gold mine, west aus.
LatrineUsedToBeShitHouse
12 WEEKS EXTRA every 10 years?!? Someone tell me that's a typo or I'm moving my family to Australia.
josephinebaxter
Yes thats right, if you stay full time with the same company. Long service leave
WacknCheese
Yeah mate, you read correctly. NZ has it as well, most of Europe.....so come on down! Just mind the bitey things. :)
LatrineUsedToBeShitHouse
So, let me get this straight, after working for 30 years you have roughly 9 months of vacation a year?
subzero600
Only those on Full time. Been working casual for the past 6 years. Have to fight the boss to take a unpaid week off.
WacknCheese
Casual has the benefits of higher pay(its a theory) with the fight for the leave as the kicker. Massive over-casualisation of our workforce
RdizzyC
Casual? Do you mean part-time?
SlightlyRelatedToThePost
Damn. Where I work, I get 10 hours/month (10 full vacation days/year) and any hours over 40 unused on Dec 31 are gone.
TrialOrc
Same. :/ I miss my 2.5 days a month
matamor
I get 2.5 days every month.
EatsBees
I have 96 hrs of planned time off, 48 hrs of unplanned (and paid), 4-5 float holidays, 8 hrs volunteer, & 1 more day for donating time

Yes. We're taken advantage of and then there is a mantra of "Just be happy you have a job."
rosalynne95
Yupperz.
grapefiend
Yes, that's pretty typical of US companies. A lot of businesses around here don't care to grant people a break, much.
doubledoubleanimalstyle
You should look up vacation times in China then...
TheFragnatic
The US along with only 6 other nations (wiki) have no laws regarding paid leave. China does (even if it's in the absolute bottom).
zanzeh
Considering the current level of productivity we all should be working 15hrs a week... tho...
zanzeh
Tbh most ppl on work for 15hrs per week, the rest of the time they sit on their thumbs...
RaynWisp
... browsing Imgur. (with no thumbs, obviously)
dijital101
Rest of the time they fill their co-workers desk with little balls.

Jesus. In your industry, perhaps. I wish I could say that.
