Two days ago I was scrolling through my options on Amazon Prime Video when I noticed that Amazon were continuing The Grand Tour without Jeremy, Richard and James. And they had three new, younger presenters Thomas Holland, James Englesman and Francis Bourgeois. As a life long Top Gear and Grand Tour fan, I was ready to not only completely dismiss, but to hate this new team.
Francis Bourgeois (pictured on the right). Is slightly more entertaining than he is annoying. Very funny, knowledgeable…and completely obsessed with trains.
In S1 E6. Francis buys one of my absolute favourite cars. The Nissan Pulsar GTIR. The car in this image is not the actual car he uses oh how I long for this car.
In conclusion, I thoroughly endorse the new series and the new presenters.

Top gear was a unicorn. Clarkson Hammond in May had genuine chemistry and were truely funny. It worked because they were best friends in real life. The next top gear failed because it lacked the camaraderie. Grand tour tried to continue it with a different formula and it didn't work. Here's hoping it works out but I have no faith

As was I until I read that "No, it's the Throttle House Guys" - who I've been watching for years and years and years.
Could they have done worse? Yes. "No, it's the Donut Media Guys" - yes, probably more recognizable - but also not a baritone among them - which would be "cue 'Top Gear America' all over again.

TG used to be a car show. Somewhere halfway it became a sitcom including the laughtrack. I stopped watching but millions of people liked it which is fine. Good for them they are having fun wit that format of TG/GT. But I think thats where copycats go wrong. They are all trying to copy "Friends". I dont think that'll ever work. If you swap out the cast of Friends... it's not Friends anymore.

Update: so I watched the season.
They are doing everything right. They’ve got the formula down.
It’s clear that they did “a season of” TGT/TG. It was just like the new Star Wars trilogy. They did all the same stuff in the first season to prove they can do it right. The train race was the Death Star. And they won.
I had high expectations. Wasn’t disappointed. One thing I’d say is that the chemistry between the presenters is yet to develop but that’s natural.
Overall, they’re actually good.

The reason James, Jeremy and Richard work is because of their chemistry.... if you can't get that chemistry, nothing else matters.

The aussie version had some major thrash in their lineup before they landed on the set that appeared on the "Top Gear Ashes Special". I thought their chemistry wasn't bad, but it took time to get there.

According to wikipedia he still writes a column for The Sunday Times, along with other occasional appearances in print, radio, and TV. He's younger than Clarkson and May, but older than Hammond.

A note that the original test he said he was doing 30mph, then later they said they were tested at 40...
I will note that the US has required side-impact protection for cars since 1973 (requiring structural door beams), the UK did not require it until 1998 (a note it was for all of Europe)...
A note that the 1973 standard just required steel cross beams, in 1993, the US expanded to require dynamic force protection (being hit with a solid block vs a deformable impactor, like another car).
