Meanwhile, in reality, Hakeem Jefferies is just whining about how it's really hard and they have no leverage and we just can't do anything, you guys :(
Mark, you're a billionaire, with a B. Put that money where your mouth is. Hold the town halls, invite the reps & senators, and make it happen. If *any* American has the opportunity to make something good into something real, it's you.
Dems hardly even explain these things on their socials, much less go out to their constituents. Here is a good guide about what Dems can do to oppose Trump and what you can do to annoy the fuck out of Dem reps to make them do it https://indivisible.org/resource/guide
no one who can be swayed by facts, proof, or logic is still on trump's side. literally everyone on trump's side is either a complete idiot, or willing to allow millions to be murdered for permission to hate and harm.
That sounds pretty cool. I work with a grant that provides summer learning activities. Cars lined around the block to get their kids into one of the programs. So many of them have Trump stickers.
We've already postponed pre-planning because we don't know if our approved budget will stay appropriated. Likely it will, but next year those programs are already gone. Already had teachers notify me of their intention to quit end of school year. Fewer people to run it.
In theory this sounds good, but only if it's one part of many initiatives.
What would be a real win is if a sympathetic FOX News reporter was invited to the event and reported on what the people said. Because if that doesn't happen, it's not ever going to be heard by the far-right.
It's not the far right, it's the moderates. The far right are already committed. It's the people who have bought into the demonization of of the left who aren't happy with the right wing either who might possibly be persuaded that somehow, the left is the lesser of two evils. Nind boggling to me, but....
Knowing how they do where I live, they’ll show up just to disrupt and gloat about how they don’t need grants or loans - except for the extra boat money that the small business pandemic fraud didn’t cover, of course. Oh, and the truck. And the credit card debt…etc.
Latest poll said 53% of voters approve of what he's doing. They think dismantling the government is good (for now at least). Dems need to break the spell and get it back down to 39% (or lower) before the midterms.
Yeah, you can't use logic or empathy with most MAGA. They only thing that works for them is the threat religious punishment. The problem is that their version of Christianity has been corrupted to point of only needed to "accept" Jesus into your heart. As long as you claim to know Jesus you can get away with anything.
The idea that so many people seem to have that you can make a moral appeal or shame people into changing their minds at this point is absurd. The people who could have been morally or logically appealled to already have, they either changed their mind already or they never will. Whoever remains is firmly rooted in place at this point.
They don’t have to. He won by a tiny margin. So many people put him in there and had no clue this was what he’d do (despite him telling us exactly what he’d do)…
Who gives a shit. It's not covered in most schools these days, and it's a good idea to educate those who might want to know. At the very least let people know a position exists so they can research it if they'd like.
I think Democrats need to stop falling for the West Wing fallacy where they firmly believe that they can finally win by delivering a well-sourced monologue.
The only language fascists understand is power and violence. They don't give a fuck about your town halls, they don't give a shit about your sound bites or peaceful protests.
Very large peaceful protests get portrayed as violent, and they are a show of potential available force. Trump did freak out about BLM. No, it didn't achieve its goals. The us-versus-them lines are deepening, and I struggle to imagine a detente.
I think large peaceful protests can be super effective. But I think, to this particular contingent of fascist, they don't inspire them to lessen their grip or change their ways. It just inspires them to create more abusive laws, give free reign to violent police...
I'm not saying not to have protests, I'm just saying that "peaceful" might not be an option as things get worse.
I mean... they gave a shit insofar as they could use those rules and laws to tie everyone's hands while they pulled off a coup, but yeah, that's over now.
The ballot box failed us, the jury box has fone nothing, what was that next box again, Mr. Miller? (Ironically in a speech about abolishing tarrifs)
That is the truth. They want to see every liberal DEAD. not out of power, not silenced, dead. In camps, in the street, they don't care. They have been fed a solid diet of the pure evil of liberals bring responsible for every bad thing that has ever happened ever. And that's that. No middle ground, no discussion, that's weakness. And while we talk, they arm.
the nazis bragged and laughed about how the liberals in their country held town halls and meetings until the boots were stomping down the hallway. you can formally protest all you want, THEY. DONT. CARE. your laws mean literally nothing to them.
I agree, but please understand that a majority of the voters aren't actually fascists. They're being deliberately trapped in information silos and fooled into voting against their interests, and they can be reached and freed, though with a lot of effort. There was a John Oliver segment about "foreigners" being deported and the shock of many interviewed Trump voters that people they knew and liked were being thrown out, claiming that those people didn't deserve it, saying that they didn't know.
The thing about fascism is it only needs a few at the top to be devastating. Not to be super cliche, but the people who supported Hitler because of mundane reasons are still called Nazis.
I think we have focused for far too long on trying to educate the people who voted for Trump, on "reaching across the aisle". There is a significant number of people who might not technically be fascist...they just hate "the libs", and that's been enough to destroy our whole country.
Yes, there are plenty of actual fascists - but they're a minority. They're a minority that needs to pull the wool over normal people's eyes to stand a chance. Yes, those people are idiots, but I don't blame them, I blame the people who are actively keeping those people ignorant.
1. It’s not about converting fascists. We know that thorough deprogramming seldom works, so why would a town hall? It’s about reaching low-information and “independent” voters, and having a chance to cut through the reactionary bullshit and disinformation to show that liberal fiscal and social policy is actually sensible and protects certain freedoms rather than whatever BS the Trump & Elon mouthpieces are saying. Democrats have had a messaging issue since Reagan, and the more people like AOC
2. and Bernie Sanders can cut through the noise and reach people who normally don’t hear a sound progressive articulation of principle, the better the odds are of better turnout for Dems in 2026 and 2028, whatever that will be worth. I don’t think Cuban is advocating for more reach-across-the-aisle bullshit, he understands that it’s more effective to change people’s minds with new information as opposed trying to debunk what they already believe. If nothing else, it behooves democrats, progress-
3. -ives, and anyone who actually gives a shit about democracy to advocate for it at the same time it’s reasonable for many of us to prepare to defend our ideals and loved ones against the growing political and physical violence and terrorism that the right is perpetrating.
More like more people need to actually read 1984. On the left. Understand what we're up against. Power for its own sake. An end, not a means. Lies for the sake of lying.
It's like any abuser. You cannot beat someone who is intent on hurting you by figuring out the right series of words to change their mind. They will keep moving the goal post, they will change the rules of the game.
Democrats will go down with the ship claiming they were nice and followed the rules and reached across the aisle the whole time.
Is this really a problem with the Democrats or the electorate? Every exit poll I read said that voters felt the Democrats were too extreme. That they were TOO left wing.
I agree, playing by the old rules isn't going to work right now. The Dem's, however, are damned if they do, and damned if they don't. They don't have the logistical power of a majority of the courts and legislatures. We need to support the good ones and start changing the narrative.
Which is wild because Democrats are firmly on the right. They're firmly capitalists. Bernie and AOC are about the furthest left and they are barely left of center.
The thing I think that's important is that exit polls are the people who voted. A big reason a lot of people don't vote at all is because Democrats aren't left enough. Nothing changes in their neighborhood no matter who's in office.
Worldwide, the U.S. Democratic party is MORE left than many other parties. Even ones with "Socialist" or "Communist" in their names. Marginalized communities are often entirely ignored. The major reason "a lot of people" don't vote at all is narrative based.
Politics is about momentum, & the American left constantly undermines itself. The American left constantly attacks Democrats, echoes & reinforces right wing talking points, & worst of all punishes Democrats for moving left.

Trump would throw some weird stunt that same day and all of the media would focus on that instead

No, let's not invite the RW podcasters. They'll find some way to spin it.

I used to think that Mark Cuban was another rich a-hole. But in the last few years, he's really surprised me.
CyberHexx
So what if they do? None of the media will cover it longer than it takes to call the socialist rallies.
georgejimmydoodle
I mean, sure. But no MAGAts will be there because their reps are MAGAts.

Oh, hi Mark. Leader Jefferies already called for this. Last week. https://jeffries.house.gov/2025/02/03/dear-colleague-re-ongoing-house-democratic-caucus-activity/

I think you're woefully overestimating the political engagement of the vast majority of voters.

Yeah, that requires the cooperation of the right wing media.
Pretty sure they’re not going to play ball, they have no reason to and every reason to fuck it up.

Then do a day where the Pentagon explains exactly where their procurement $$ are spent.

If "every dem" held simultaneous town halls ... the news would cover one of them.

About 40% didn't vote. That is more people than voted for Trump
SerialChickenLover
Unfortunately, MAGA needs to experience the consequences of MAGA to have a hope of understanding why MAGA is actually evil.
alienstomper
Its not about them, its about the 30% of people who didnt give a rats ass last november
RockKickass
The ones that got laid off and the ones that didn’t vote might give a hoot. You’re not trying to convince MAGAts

MAGAts only account for a tiny percentage of the electorate and an even smaller percentage of Americans at large.
