He's straight and I'm gay. Went exactly how I expected but I still can't help to feel bad. He's been a close friend since 6th grade but I started catching feelings for him in the 9th grade and I'm already half way through the 11th. It didn't feel like a normal crush though. Crush feels like too much of a temporary word. It was more like love. I told him because I needed to get this off my chest. I don't know how to feel right now. I only have one other close friend to tell this to right now and he's busy so I guess I'll just dump these emotions onto Imgur.
EDIT: Thank for all the responses. Really makes me feel like I'm not alone. I'm sort of new to Imgur, but Imgurians are really great people.

I really don't know what you thought to gain by telling him. You'd have eventually got over him when you met someone gay who felt the same

This too shall pass, OP. It may not feel like it now, but the hurt will fade. Telling your crush/friend you like them is brave. Bravo, sir!

It was never going to end well. It was always going to end awkward.

Is he still your friend though?

10 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

Yeah it didn't end terribly. I just asked him if he would consider being in a relationship with a guy and he said that that's not him

I gotta ask, if you knew he wasn't gay why would you risk your friendship by telling him?

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I wasn't 100% sure if he was straight. I asked him if he was straight and then told him how i feel because rather taken the chance 1/2

because I wouldn't like to regret not to telling him. Regret hurts more than rejection in the long run.

Completely understand. I've been in this position before. Things may suck for a bit but they'll get better.

Thanks for the optimism

Love happens, but don't be hard with yourself @OP you take it out, it's better than being quiet

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That's so hard. Finding someone awesome is hard enough. It'll get better

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

well thanks for not writing 8 paragraphs about how you CAN'T muster up the balls to tell the person how you feel. up-vote!

We all go there at some point don't let it get you down remember you would never know if you didn't say

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I would rather live with rejections than die with regret wishing I had told him.

No its patrick

maybe I just lack the perspective on this from not being gay myself, but wouldn't you look for another gay man to fall for?

You dont always choose who you love.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The reason I had a crush on him was because we were close friends and we shared so much in common except for sexuality.

It's my fault for falling in love with him.

10 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 2

No worries bro, I had the same thing happen in high school. One of my best friends came out to me and told me he'd been in love with me...

10 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

For a long time. We're still friends to this day. Went to his wedding in fact. He eventually realized they were just high school feelings...

& found himself an awesome dude to share his life with. I did do a striptease for him at his coming out party though. Least I could do.

No one can chose who they fall for or how they fall or when they fall or why.. This is coming from a Christian, keeping you in my prayers.

Well said.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I really appreciate that. Thank you for understanding.

Embrace the fact you actually do love him though. You can love people on different levels, just don't feed the idea of being sexual with him

What's being Christian got to do with this? This is coming from a vegan.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Go home vegan, go home and turn from your vegan ways.

You got time if it's only 9th grade OP. Don't take the rejection personally and you'll catch those feelings again.

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Thanks for the advice. I would never hate him for it or take it personally because he can't help the fact that he's straight.

Forgot to mention I just started 11th grade. I would've never though a crush would last more than 2 years.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It'll normally last until you accept it's not going to work. Then it'll fade and you'll find someone new. It's more difficult in school 1/

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Because you still see them every day but after school you'll realize there's always someone else. The feeling normally doesn't completely 2/

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Fade but it wanes over time. There are still women I love who've I've accepted I can't be with for various reasons but love isn't exclusive

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Thanks so much for your input. Helps me feel better knowing that people understand.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I know this isn't what you want to hear right now, but it might be a piece of what you need; don't fret a high school flame burning out...1

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

There's a chance yall can remain friends, there's a chance yall would have never remained friends after high school, there's a chance ...2

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yall could have would up together. All of these possibilities were maybes. The constant for sure is that you have way more life to live...3

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

And you will learn so much more about yourself as you grow and mature. This hurts now, but it will help you find happiness in the future...4

So cry the tears you need, or be as sad as you need for now, then buck up and prepare for the next chapter in life. It gets better. (fin)

I really needed this. Thank you so much for your words of wisdom. Helps a young guy out when they don't know how to feel.
