Help me understand this please. I know this sites been going downhill last few years, but I dont see what has changed so suddenly for all the posts last couple days.. Did something happen I just don't see. I only scroll imgur on the pc? Did the mobile app die? I mean I can see the decline over the years, its not like it used to be, which is sad, did it just pass the tipping point for peeps yesterday?

As others have said, it's the notifications. Any form of keeping up with specific users? Gone. Aan't form of following up on conversations? Gone. Notifications are basically the only thing turning this from "image repository with some comments" into a functional community. It's probably a small fix, but they don't care to make it, because there's no-one left to care - or to fix it.

The main thing that I know about is there was (/still is?) an issue with the notifications system. Like, nobody has been getting notifications for their comments, be that replies, upvotes, etc.

The main complaint I've seen is that notifications stopped working a few days ago. I think many are mad because they don't seem interested in doing any maintenance to the forum, they just seem to be milking the corpse.

The difference is this is the first noteworthy issue that popped up after they canned pretty much the entire staff, so now there's basically barely anyone left to even address this and any future issues. This is effectively a last hurrah before the site eventually dies from neglect, so, yeah, you can say it officially passed the tipping point.

Firing the mods, firing the staff, making awfully shitty ads, generally making things worse, and now apparently notifications have been broken for 4 days plus they're removing posts complaining about MediaLab. It's like setting a stick on fire, that just so happens to be resting on a barrel of gunpowder that they've been adding to for years.
