Spent an hour tucking on a brigantine crewed by a pick-up group who couldn't work out where I was chatting at them from, got discovered and killed, respawned and sailed right back, got *back* on their ship without them knowing, hung on until they went to attack a reaper sweaty and got sunk, swam onto the reaper ship and clung on until they reached a Fort of Fortune world event-- *gaaaasp*
--hid in their mast while they fought waves of skellies on shore, raised their anchor and sent their ship sailing away empty, hid in the fort until they came back, avoided their search for me on the island until they felt comfortable finishing the boss fight, watched them run around with the vault key checking for to see if I was still around, and as soon as they opened the vault I jumped back onto their ship, raised the anchor again, crashed it straight into the bay of the fort, stole a stronghold gunpowder keg from the vault and blew us both straight to heaven.
And respawned and sailed back to the fort to steal the loot.
Which we gave to another ship before logging out.
It wasn't profitable, but goddamn was it FUN.

Out of all the years I've played Sea of Thieves I've only come across one crew that I honestly suspected of using some kind of external software to help them out. Usually when I get my butt kicked it's because the other crew is better and more coordinated than I am.

College psychology classes have taught me the difference between extrinsic rewards (Gold, money) and intrinsic rewards (fun, inter good feelings)
Both pay well, and we often do things because of intrinsic rewards over extrinsic rewards. Dogs are a good example. Food versus love motivated. I'm sure a psychology major might have more to add, but I stick to my PSY 1301 understanding of piracy=rewarding in other ways.

Where does one end and the other begin? You would think this is a deep commentary on the use of AI opponents and moderation, but really I just imagine horsing around in both situations.
