To clarify, the 55 hours thing involved multitasking (Netflix) while I re-drew every little line. The final piece was made in Illustrator so I had to redraw each line. I tried doing it with a pen, but the lines kept trying to "fix" themselves, so I couldn't get the curves exactly like the original. I ended up doing this with a mouse (drop key points in a curve then adjust the handles at each point).

I tried to do an image trace/live trace, but I couldn't get it exact enough. I tried adjusting the contrast in Photoshop to make the lines bolder, but the biggest problem was that the original piece was too small and I couldn't get a good picture of it. I tend to draw things small scale like these (http://imgur.com/gallery/gbBVH which are all on post-it notes).
