I think people forget that dogs can smell your chemical spikes, which is why we can train them to let you know when you're about to have a seizure, for example. So even if a dog can't see you're faking, they can smell you're faking.
That's how they respond to people fake fainting. I'd like to think dogs, and for that matter, any animal who's senses that are so acute, would not be fooled, EVER.

Maybe I'm mistaken, but that's what it looked like to me. That said, most of the dogs knew they were just playing. I think, had they gone on with the 'game' longer, the dogs attitude might have changed. Not like you can keep faking when they're licking your face though. Lol
I dunno... my current dog is pretty oblivious to stuff like that... he flipped my wife through the air one day while we were out walking and he just stared at me like "bro... that looked kinda painful..." like zero concern. My previous dog would have been trying to lick her wounds and be showing remorse and concern... this guy was just like "Derrrrrrrrr....?" Not very empathetic like most dogs are.

In my experience, yes. Humans, and cats and dogs, at least have a very distinct sleep and just woken up smell. It was always my favorite odor.
