Careful with the generalizations folks, my folks were WWII vets, I grew up in the inner city and on food stamps.

The most smiled generation in history closing the door behind them. They literally ruined the country and the planet.

Hmm, I'm white and I don't recall living the "dream" at any time in my life. I'm a disabled Vet that's been homeless twice. Spare me the BS!
FritoParadise
Yep, we're the self entitled, spoiled generation when they're the ones that can't figure out technology without help from our generation
casjones7
Speaking as a white baby boomer, I agree, and I am sorry
mesogiria
Please don't be. Being sorry for something you can't control isn't worth anything, and just hurts you.
chemicalBagel
Boomers are objectively the worst cohort in modern history.
Onlyhereforthelaughs
Their idea of "spoiled" is "not working in the cotton fields."
OmnipotentBeing
Google the ME generation. The generations that came before the Boomers despised them. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Me_generation

Boomers open the door for themselves and abruptly close it on the rest of us
Billis75
Pink Houses by John Mellencamp is about how the American Dream doesn't apply to poor people. Rubes just like it for "ain't that America!"
rakas90
My boomer parents tell me they built our economy while complaining we ruined it. I wasn't even in it until the 2010s. It makes no sense.
IsolatedAsshole
They've had it easier than any other generation in history yet have the fucking balls to call everyone else lazy.
finetoroastasimamarshmallow
My parents: Everyone has the same opportunities. Me: On what planet though?
Northwindlowlander
I count myself really lucky with my boomer relatives, they all get that they were lucky. Like, my aunt did not have an easy life at all but
still, they own their house which they bought with a single low income. I've had a much easier life in most ways but in others not, and it's
kinda awesome that people can recognise it both ways. I hope I'm as cool, when I'm old
Tigersterne
Some Boomers. Some got firehosed in Selma
Cheomesh
My white boomer parents lived most of their lives in poverty and they'll die in poverty.
FallingStar7669
The Greatest Generation gave rise to the Entitled Generation, and they've been fucking things up for 80 years.

Trying to explain to my mom why things were great for her in the 50’s, but not great for pretty much everyone outside her neighborhood…
Hypernaut
Always makes me think of playing Civilization. Boomers were born during an American Golden Age from a surplus of happiness.
Can we still build Notre Dame for +10 happiness?
MarkSoupial
Ah but they EARNED it (by simply existing during the time of America's greatest progressive and socialist economic period while being white)
kojenk
the work of their forefathers that they leeched upon without taking their example to build for the next generation
TargaX
People always get this wrong. The Silent Generation is the one that could afford to live with only 1 parent working. Got all the post-WW2
government benefits, etc. By the time Boomers were adults the USA was already in the shitter.
tombrazelton
Boomers didn’t even earn it. Their parents fought for it.
somethingstupidandclever
Let's not forget how fucked up those parents were. They murdered for it and drank away the pain. Then blamed everyone else.
iLynux
Murdered? Killing in war is not murder.
Greatinternetpanda22
It was Nazis too. It couldn't be more justified. The PTSD will get you though.
CommodusLeitdorf
Yup, Spoiled brat boomers pulling the ladder up behind them.
nasukkin
And Gen X let them get away with it.
InkyBlinkyPinkyAndClyde
The men, maybe. The women were still being raised to be wives and mothers. Getting any education beyond nursing or teaching was /1
considered a waste for women. Maybe the ones born right at the end, on the edge with Gen X, were in a better position, but my mom /2
basically was expected to get married and pump out kids. And that's what she did and she's had a pretty miserable life. /3
Mairoa
Yeah and I bet she didn't even work. It's sickening seeing all those boomers never working a day in their damn lives and still rich.
She was actually the primary breadwinner because my dad couldn't hold down a job and spent money like there was no tomorrow. She got /1
caught between generations. Still having tons of kids like the old generation she was raised in, but working like the new generation of /2

We have collective amnesia. We no longing remember the struggles of the previous generations. Facists, Women's Rights, LGBT+ Rights. Unions
People fought and died for what is being taken away again.

When you have it easy, you assume everyone has it easy

Nobody with an ounce of awareness thinks anyone today has it easy. I know my kids will need whatever I can give them so I scrimp on spending

Yup. Grew up uprmid class (and I'm white) Good schools, safe environment, good parents who pushed me to be educated, had $ for college....
Took me my 20s being on my own afterwards to realize how stacked against you it can be without that foundation, not to mention racism.
PubstarHero
Had to have a talk with my boomer mom about this. She wonders why more people cant just do college, and I had to remind her that she >

Nice idea, but when politicians are actively attacking the means of social mobility, its unlikely to happen without outside help
What do you mean by that
I'm pretty sure you're not that dumb, I'll not be biting today.
TheWombatStrikesAgain
If you accomplished something and the realized you had help, that can diminish your pride in your accomplishments. Many can't handle that.
TremendousDude5
1) This is why I call BS on those who claim they are self made, that nobody helped them.
Jeez do you complain about everything? Life is terrible when everything is negative to you
SugarRay59
I mean the self-made myth is actively destroying men. Most men think they need to be self-reliant, which leads to harmful isolation.
Humans aren't built to face anything alone, we're one of the single most genetically social animals existing, save some hive insects.
2) Anybody at some point received some help, then you take it from there.

NotaCPA
defined benefit or defined contribution?
I'm not totally sure, I know nothing about them, I think it has employer contributions, and a 401k, without.
I ask because my last few non-contract jobs had pensions as well. All defined contributions. I would have had to dump 20% to see real growth
yikes!

Had lots to do with all competing economies having recently committed suicide in WW1+2. US was in unique position to be the only store open.
