Mom and her 1st wife bred and raised Danes for the show circuit. I can confirm, they are helpless goobers about some things. We could keep one of them out of a room just by putting a rather small pot with water in the doorway.
My parent's dog used to like to sleep on the comfy chair in the living room, so they put up a gate. If she was asleep on the chair when you came into the house, she would walk up to the gate she had jumped, and pretend she had gotten trapped in the living room and couldn't get out.
I would love to have a dog that is 130 or more pounds. But most of them come with a life expectancy of 10 or less years. I wish we would have bred dogs to have a life expectancy similar to parrots.
I have a great dane mix and her personality is all dane. I call her my California stoner dog cuz she's always down for whatever, man. She's currently lying across my stomach in bed, having just covered me in kisses. She's my rock.
Yeah, 8 years isn't really enough. Thankfully my boy is 8 and in very good health. (Please see attached required picture, he likes being tucked in with blankets and pillows)
That's excellent news! So far we've been doing good with fairly careful diet and exercise, though we had a scare with a tumor last year. No worries, we got it taken care of, but let me remind people: get your pets pet insurance, or you would have to make decisions based solely on whether or not you can afford to treat the problem.

Why did the trap Toby like that? That fence is impassable, someone needs to save that poor tiny horse.

My boy was just as gorgeous and goofy. Someone let that boy loose!!

Typical for Danes? I've seen them sprint, run and jump in limited space. They are graceful, yet look clumsy.

Great danes are some of the sweetest dogs ever. Shame they live such short lives.
