Any actor with a steady paycheck is happy to be working. She gets way beyond scale just had a year and a half off due to the strike. Sadly sometimes actors get pigeon holed and get sick of it but the alternative is far worse. But Dan Stevens is more than just Beast. He was the main character in Legion, a stage career, solid film and TV career, and an incredibly talented singer. His role in Downton wasn't even his best roll.

If must suck to be in her position, she know she is getting paid handsomely, she is irreplaceable for the show, it's just easy to continue doing this as it is easy after spending half her life doing it, but she has also wasted so much talent and acting opportunities, it seems she just gave up and settled

there's this conundrum with actors: on one side they must be really happy to have a show, puts food on the table because the market is really fickle, and on the other hand they are actors but are stuck in a single role for years, if not decades, and the filming schedule + typecasting prevent them from doing anything else. They are tied to the show, and if the show stops, it's over for them.

True, but she might worry about her chances of getting another acting job later on because she is so associated with that specific role. Some actors come off long shows and do great, but many are basically ghosted because producers and directors are worried about the viewers not being able to see them as anything other than that previous role.

We pan down from the sign through the double doors underneath. In one of the rooms we see Meredith Grey on a ventilator, camera pans to the EKG screen, we hear the beeping, it get slowly. It MUST stay in your bank account and though you nor anybody else could ever use even a dollar, you are taxed on it, while it also gains interest every year, thus making the taxes upon it higher. Quite a few surgeons say it's one of the most accurate pieces of media out there about surgery. It's not perfect, obviously, for drama reasons, but they definitely have surgeons consult for the show. And they do a lot of good things like promote masking/vaccines, and give decent medical advice (like if you're stabbed, don't pull the knife/object out if you can avoid it).

MANY years ago, when Howie Mandel did stand up, his second special (Howie from Maui) he asked the audience what you do with a gun shot victim. He was able to rattle off the stream of instructions necessary to handle it because of his time on St. Elsewhere. Then he goes "No no, I'm wrong.... you call a surgeon..." But still, at this point, she's probably qualified for a medical degree if he could do that after just a few seasons.

There's a phenomenal story from Kate Walsh, who was on a flight when they asked if there was a doctor on the plane, and on muscle memory from being on Greys, she went to stand up, and her husband grabs her arm, shoves her back down and goes "you are an ACTOR"

That's mostly because they barely touch on the actual treatments and focus on the relationships the doctors have with their patients and hospital culture. The episodes that do focus on the treatments tend to be goofy because it's a comedy, like the episode where Turk tries to operate on a patient who isn't under any anesthesia except hypnosis.

Yeah but the terminology, symptoms, and medical usage of instruments are all REAL. You always see surgeons washing their hand pre-op. You watch house walk into an or and just yank out a tapeworm, without even covering his hair or wearing a mask

I mean, sure, sometimes, but it's usually pointed out that House is fucking up the OR and they'll have to disinfect it. Meanwhile, Dr. Cox will walk down a line of ICU patients and say "Dead, dead, dead, dead, dead... oh look, this one might survive" right in front of their faces.

As far as textbook knowledge? Sure. But the actual process they go with the vast majority of the time, jumping straight to biopsies and surgeries, etc is incredibly far from reality so, yeah, *factually* correct but just as if not more unrealistic than most

Even the textbook knowledge is usually a little suspect, but that kind of gets excused because House specifically gets the weird cases that don't present normally or have some odd twist to them. The clinic hours are apparently pretty much what you get working in a clinic, though.

People like my mom and sister who have been watching religiously since 2005. I have to admit, the first few seasons are okay, but it really just gets repetitive after that. It's the same reason shows like Law & Order--especially SVU-- and The Walking Dead (my two guilty pleasures) are still going; as long as there are enough people watching and the fan base is active, they'll keep making the show. Once Grey's goes off air, get ready for White's Anatomy or something lol.

Beyond repetitive it gets absurd. By season 4 or 5 the hospital would have so much bad press and so many lawsuits that every single doctor would lose their job and their license. And a lot of modern shows in this genre are even worse. 911 has so much insane stuff happening every episode you would think it's a parody of these shows.
House MD is also absurd, but at least it's framed in a way that's somewhat believable with a small team and they are all exceptional doctors + House is a genius.

Someday, I want a long-running soap opera with 200+ named characters to just stop introducing new ones or phasing out old ones, and fucking *commit* to every single character having an affair with every other character.
They gotta be able to get at least a few seasons out of that. Then start over by killing every character in one big yachting accident. Which also kills every actor. Just think of the ratings.
