Step 1: find fish that can be eaten raw
PossibleNPC
That’s actually the 35th step.

I don't really like sushi, but as someone who loves cooking, I super appreciate it. It looks b-e-a-utiful
shimmernshine

Fresh fish, sharp knife, steady hands - the holy trinity of sushi mastery. Gordon Ramsay would be proud, minus the colorful language.

Fuck me up OP.

Nice! Could you give us the recepy for the rice?

6TB akazu vinegar, 1 TB sugar, 1.5 tsp salt per 2C of uncooked rice (which I let my rice cooker handle)

I like your toy. 'Charred' salmon nigiris are amazing. Difference in taste/texture through the fish is good-strange.

#6 Did you know salmon wasn't originally considered a fish suitable for sushi, but only became one by effort of the Norwegians?

Yes, but that’s not salmon
ExTechOp
Sorry, I always get trout and salmon mixed up, due to the effing marketing.

Why would you sear that beautiful toro?
Otherwise, looks delicious. Nice. :)

This is fantastic. Where do you buy your fish? Supermarket? I’m always reluctant to eat it raw from local supermarket.
p3culiar15
If you are in or near ca capital, Sunh Fish market is a place to go. Local sushi restaurant get fish from there for sushi grade fish
WarBearGrrrrrrr
When buying fish for sushi you need to only buy gradeA in U.K. always inform the fish monger that you want it for sushi to make sure it’s ok
Atarukb
Freeze it for 7 days. Buying it from farms also makes it safer but not 100%. Also if you chew very very well, it usually kills the worms.
AstroFizX
Well this should help:https://www.ctvnews.ca/health/biology-prof-shocked-to-find-body-louse-mislabelled-fish-in-sushi-dna-analysis-1.4378016
bushfrogben
I'll go with perhaps really unpopular alternative, buy smoked or cured fish and use that to make "sushis" super tasty too although not raw.
aprilludgateduire
If you don't have a good supermarket with sushi grade fish around there's places you can buy it online frozen. Sushi should be frozen first.
YourNeighborhoodLesbian
Why?
aprilludgateduire
I should say the fish should be frozen first. It kills any possible parasites that you might consume in raw fish. Most places do this.

What's the name of your torchy thing? I didn't even know sushi getting flamed was even still considered sushi.
AintNoRestForTheWookie
There's dozens of us, DOZENS!
GrumpleStache
Sushi comes from a Japanese word meaning "sour rice" or "vinegar rice"
InkyBlinkyPinkyAndClyde
Basically if it has sushi rice it's sushi. Doesn't matter if the other ingredients are cooked or raw. For example, shrimp and egg are two /1
InkyBlinkyPinkyAndClyde
that are always cooked. Eel also I believe. It's still sushi though if it's on top of the sushi rice. /2
WarBearGrrrrrrr
You have the wrong term mate, sushi can be cooked or raw, sashimi is raw fish & the name of the torchy thing is a blow torch
AintNoRestForTheWookie
I've also seen sashimi referred to as nigiri.
PossibleNPC
False.
WarBearGrrrrrrr
Nigiri wouldn’t be just raw fish & usually includes rice and therefore could have been done for ease, I may be wrong
ohmanhospitals
If you use salmon it has to be properly treated (frozen very cold) to prevent transmission of any parasites. Please read before jumping in.
titaniumsnail
I do this with all fish I intend to use for Sushi. I believe it is mandatory where I live to do so in restaurants.
whatpassesforclever
It’s already been done by the time it’s at a retailer.
titaniumsnail
It is still recommended since we do not know the conditions the fish was shipped in. Also Norway is a fishing nation. Fresh fish!
