Everyone likes to talk about the Second World War and while it deserves every bit of thought, of conversation, books written, movies and documentaries made, it deserves all of that. But the First World War is just as compelling and just as horrifying, in some ways. I just finished Dan Carlin Blueprint for Armageddon series and all I can say is "holy fucking shit, man." because at the end of it I'm sitting here, mentally exhausted. Dan's explanation of the war is exhaustive, both in detail and in substance and leaves the listener, at least me, exhausted by the detail, wowed by the effort this had to take, and horrified by the losses. I should have gone to sleep hours ago but I'm up, finishing it.
If you like history, give it a listen. Hardcore History, Blueprint for Armageddon.

Favorite one from Dan was Prophets of Doom, about the ana-baptist uprising in Muenster. It's a little known chapter in history and CRAZY.
