When you finally get out of the meeting and can get back to coding

When someone breaks the build then immediately goes on holidays

When someone shows you a shortcut you never knew about

When you're fixing bugs before go live

When you see code you wrote 5 years ago

When you have to explain the awful internal procedures to a new developer

When someone claims they have 100% test coverage

When you find a test suite with no assertions

When they ask where you got your test data

When your test suite passes on the first run

When you know someone is about to check in a conflicting change

When they want to change the scope and you can't do anything about it

When they want to change the scope and you can do something about it

When the system you wrote is decommissioned

Cat tax? I don't have a cat.

Go Agile

I have absolutely no idea what any of this means +1

I'm a developer. I didn't know I needed these images. I needed these images.

If you pass your test suite first go your test suite is broken

Not my field, but I can appreciate. Good job.

20+yrs software engineer, multiple gigs. Think I have a better chance of spotting a miniature unicorn before I die than a competent QA dept

When your test suite passes on the first run, and you have to break your code to make sure the tests actually work.

As a developer, every picture here hurts my soul

As a tester, samesies.

Any tips on where to start/books to read? I am doing some courses my self but they are so so so basic.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I always suggest Code Complete. Gives a good perspective of coding in general.

I related to these a little too well, including the coding and bug fixing lol

These. So much these.

As a gameplay designer +1

#4 What if you switched two at the exact same time?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That's what the beginning shows, changing multiple at the same time. It'll figure it out and do them in whatever direction it's working on.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

lol... tests

What's the scope?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's the reqs which have been agreed between the BA's and Client. In Waterfall it your funct spec/business reqs. In Agile its the stories

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

The definition of what your software needs to do. Usually people will want you to add new features before you've even finished.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Ah ty, I thought it meant something more technical

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

"well you haven't delivered yet, so it shouldn't be too big of a deal to just squeeze these changes in right?"

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Ugh. Exactly.

Hey I'm new to programming.... What language should I study which might help career wise... I excelled in c++ in school and know logic (1/2)

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

(2/2) Know oop, using functions, arrays and pointers. But I left it completely. Starting again. Which languages should I learn for careers

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Learn how to unscrew screws with a hammer, how to nail nails with a knife and how to cut ropes with a screwdriver just to widen 1/2

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

your horizons and then condition yourself to use the right one for the job So learn all of them and figure out which one's good for what 2/2

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

C++, Unreal Script, and maaybe c# for video games. SQL and PHP if you want to do databases and get paid real money and forever be on call

What is this outdated information o_O

I have been working as a gameplay programmer for 7 years now, and if you want to work at a AAA studio or any studio that wants to do more1/2

than mobile you need c++ or unreal script for real engines, or C# for any sane Unity development. Am happy to answer questions. 2/2

All of them. Syntax is trivial. Learn to design algorithms well, and how to use IDE shortcuts. A carpenter doesn't only own one screwdriver.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

What would you say about python or Ruby.....

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Never used them but I had a guy who liked to use object oriented perl. Anything to make maintenance complicated for others is bad.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This 100%, high level languages break down into syntax and you pick up on as easily as another, some nuances but learning algorithms is key.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Let's see. somedays I think while useful would it be redundant coz the way I see it the future is the automation of automation set by IT

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Well, someone has to automate it, plus just because you automate one thing doesn't mean you can't code something else.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Oh I know syntax is just a way to frame logic. I have decent logic or atleast know how the correct logic would be framed. I'm 26 now (1/2)

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Recently lost my job and am thinking IT would be wonderful so I'm asking strictly to decrease learning time and improve speed of applying it

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Depends on what you want to do. Going for corporate/business? SQL + C#. Academia? SQL + Java. Small startups? SQL + Python.
