Oh, you mean all of the cis, Christian, straight, white men saying that only cis, Christian, straight, white men can be firefighters and fire marshals, all while in the comfort of their home bunker studios in Bumfuck, Kentucky? Put up and suit up or sit there and shut up, Charker.

Do we haven names for these "experts" so we can actually verify that they spoke "expertly" on matters of which they are wholly fuckin' unqualified for?

"Pseudo-intellectuals" seems to have fallen out of favor, but it's always what comes to mind when I encounter them.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I feel that pseudo intellectuals might have some intelligent and nuanced thoughts, as opposed to echo chamber inmates.

I tend to file this under "armchair quarterbacking"

The future arrived and it sucks.

I would love Ron Swanson's input on the current political climate. I'm sure it would be *scathing.*

Rin is a fun character, but his views on government are not great. He would love how the government is self destructing and that capital is winning. This is the guy who wanted public parks to be coin-operated like Chuck-E-Cheese.

At some point he says he only works for the government to make it worse. He would 100% on board with DOGE. Basically slash everything and let it work itself out.

Inflation, immunology AND bible interpretation too.

You need to rake the forest. And pour it gatorade. -The orange orangutang.

Life must be so easy when you can distill TikTok videos into expert judgment in like a day

Well that wildfire did inflate rapidly

I had a coworker whose son worked in tech. She didn't believe me when I said the source was unidentifiable. I walked a security expert into her office (guy is a mile ahead of me and just visiting) who told her the same thing. The same happens with people who are married to doctors. Like that politician whose wife is an OBGYN and he humiliated himself in a Tweet. The further you get from immunologists during the pandemic, the more confident people seemed to the point of nurses refusing the jab.

Perfect

I don't know what's makes things more depressing: the fact that the Russian disinfo bots on Twitter were all literally like this, or the fact that real people actually continue to think the bots are themselves real people.

Good ol’ Dunning-Kruger.

2 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

You're talking about Trump, right?

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Fires are hot, in my expert opinion

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's the same with the tech/game field with analysts. "Analysts predict..." And they're literally just making shit up and wrong 99% of the time, yet they continue to publish articles about them.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yup

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

... OH, economic inflation. Ah... yes.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

See in the furry community we ARE experts on both. I'll see myself out.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You forgot the submersible experts.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The fires are clearly a liberal attempt to disrupt the successful conservative homeowners. It was planned years ago in a word doc on hunter bidens laptop, duh. /s

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Down here it’s Hurricane Experts..

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

As a firey, I know most people think they can fight a fire, until there is one and it doesn't follow their plan.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

They have many areas of expertise, inflation, wildfires, immigration, economy, dog grooming.

2 years ago | Likes 179 Dislikes 4

It really is amazing how they're experts on everything and somehow are still unemployed or some low skill job when they're so proactive to society, really bad luck on their part 😑

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's easy when you do your own research.

Don't forget biology and gender!

2 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

They went to the school of TikToks.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Spelled child wrong

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Uh.. in what context are they experts in dog “grooming”?

2 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Furries?

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 2

Furries aren't into animals. They like anthro animal characters, and may or may not be into those characters, depending on the person. Someone who wants to kiss the sexy dancer foxes from Zootopia can safely be assumed to not be attracted to actual literal real-life tigers.

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

We also keep shit fantasy, god dammit. If we find animal fuckers, we OUST the fuck out of them. The problem is, when it's a popular artist, they can get away with all kinds of illicit shit, and it pisses me of the fuck off. It took years to get a known pedophile off Furaffinity just because the chairmen of the site were buddies with him, AND claimed 'he brought traffic' or didn't want to deal with his rabid fanbase. While we still have problems, we try to fix them.

Don't forget relationship advice, sports expertise, vaccines, and pandemic responses. They really are quite impressive

2 years ago | Likes 28 Dislikes 0

They're experts in biology and virology as well.

Weirdly, in wildland fire fighting (especially a Tier 1 fire like this one) a few of the strategies involved include fighting the fire by starting more fires in order to remove fuel for the bigger fire to consume

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

A quantitative easing joke!

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Except its not a joke. It's a real thing. Clearing fuel is the best way to fight these fires. Either pushing it away with machinery and exposing dirt or burning off the fuel in a controlled manner. Aussies regulalry do preventative burns - or we used to before the fire danger season got so long there isnt enough 'safe' time to do the burns.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Back-burning can be used, but not in situations like this, with such a high fuel load and 100 km/h winds.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Absolutely. It only works in the right conditions. Backburning is most effective as a preventative, done during cooler times.

They fight the fire with lots of different techniques. Experience pushes them toward the best solution for any point in time. They don't always get it right either.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The fire behavior is nuts and the Santa Ana’s aren’t helping any

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Agreed.
