Posting this while using AI for your covers is wild

Apr 16, 2026 10:17 PM

"AI replacement for thee, but not for me..."

Important note: this is about the imgur user, not the artist in the screencap they posted.

I mean I can't provide salary for someone else, but I would be okay cooking

There's no shortage of people painting murals of Jesus, they're just not the rock stars of the art world anymore. Patronage is not the limiting factor. Look how much money Damian Hirst and Banksy make. The art world has moved on.

Doesn't it make perfect sense for them to post this? The tweet is literally about having to prioritize living expenses over pure art.

My favorite thing on this website is when you see AI in a dump and say something, usually the OP will get all defensive and shitty rather than simply removing the AI.

"Oh I do all this work to collect these memes, I'm not the one who made them, it's not my fault" Okay but that doesn't stop them from just taking them out, but somehow this is always considered a ludicrous suggestion. They often act as if you're personally attacking them. It's so wild to me.

NGL I had no idea we could remove images from a post, I thought we just had to delete the whole thing.

She is Lou Li Rong. But these two were holy wrong.

And I still say that calling them that is an insult to the dork ass loser community.

And we agreed to take offense at the comparison, but do feel it is an apt description of the two men in question, just not strong enough.

It'll be sick when they try to join thr dork ass loser community and get rejected...all part of the plan

Did she have a controversy with AI or something? Last I remember, she was doing a really good webcomic, from long before ai was a thing. What did I miss?

If you're talking about Kelly Turnbull, she's a professional in the animation industry now. The only time I can recall her using AI was some experimentation before it was controversial -- I remember her making a tweet about how she used it to generate some generic portraits to fill a whole bunch of tiny, tiny picture frames in an excessively detailed mansion background.

No, I am not talking about that. I am talking about the person who posted a screencap of her tweet who regularly uses AI to make covers for their ebooks.

Ah, thanks for clearing that up. I am derp

I'm guessing @op is talking about @/inkican -- see, eg, /gallery/real-authors-put-themselves-out-there-Qngk0YP (and the links from there, where several of their books sure look like they've got gen "ai" covers)

Well that's just an advertising account, like so many others on this site these days. Something hit front page? Time to edit in the ad. /gallery/8XcJwNR

Michaelangelo's parents were like "You want to drop out of school and become an artist?!?!?!?!?! ok fine here's an apprenticeship" and then his teacher was like "hey i told the greatest patron of arts in human history about you and he wants to support you"

So when you see things like "Michaelangelo was only 24 when he did this" its missing context: he got to dedicate his life to art before he was even a teenager and had lots of support every step of the way

and a lot of his works took years

So - quick take is that Nepo babies aren't new.

Marginally longer version is that family connections pay disproportionate dividends.

The smart investor should be born wealthy and connected - got it. /s

Isn't he also the guy that kept taking advances on commissions and then fleeing town?

And he was a turtle.

Tortise. Turtles have flippers. Tortise have feet.

WRONG

What, in your view, are the defining differences between tortoises and turtles? Turtles are aquatic, tortoises live primarily on land. There is a difference in the shape of the shell. Otherwise, Hannah Gadsby summed it up nicely.

Dude, have you never heard of the species mutantis ninjacus? Genetic studies have placed them with the turtles, and the specimen in question is clearly a juvenile member of this species. Get it together, man!
