source story: 15 Aug 2022 - "A horse pulled into a carriage was frightened by the salute and swept along the sidewalk in St. Petersburg. used to have horses and ponies and every year there were at least three firework occasions. it took considerable effort to keep them calm-ish. except our Shetlander. little turd-factory didn't give a damn as long as she had food. Few years later. rinse and repeat with dogs.
my boss would've shit a brick if that happened to one of her carriages. i almost jack knifed one once trying to back up and turn around when i first started driving. she once docked my pay $20 for a scratch on the wheel that was about an inch long and had i noticed i could have covered up with nailpolish or something.'
It’s year-round where I live. Outside of the holidays, they do it for disruption and not celebration. They set them off at 2 am on weekdays. The poor neighborhood dogs go crazy.
The randomness of it is hard to prepare for. You can close all windows and play loud music if you know it’s going to happen. But they set off those M80s sporadically through the night and morning.
My flatmate's dog doesn't bat an eyelid at fireworks. On the other hand, if she hears someone in the street she thinks she knows then it's bark bark bark and run to the front door...
I remember a 4th of July parade where Civil War reenactors had a pair of horses run down a street with 3 thousand pound Napoleon cannon in tow, side swiping parked cars as they went.
Can't find this incident specifically but if you google for horse drawn carriage incidents these things happen with shocking frequency. Just a quick search brings up incidents in Memphis, San Antonio, Chicago, Kansas City, Montreal, Charleston, Cleveland, New York and the list goes on.
Montreal has banned horses drawn carriage a few years ago though but accidents and horse safety and wellbeing were among the reasons. The tourists can walk...
The BMW at the start of the video has a license plate that looks like it is in the format Russia uses, and the registration region code "178" would be for St Petersburg
The lady at the front casually cleaning up her fallen dishes seems like it’s happened to her with shocking frequency. That face says, “dammit, this shit again!”
You are right! Based on the plates and not the architecutre, the first BMW has some weird y651EO178 which seems to be glued from several pieces, this could be Kazakhstan even who knows (maybe Uzbekistan for the Y in front?)
Horses are strange, a horse can walk past the same post a 100 times, with no reaction, then completely go beserk the 101th time, for no reason whatsoever... But yeah, all animals can be scared of fireworks...
My grandparents have a cattle ranch, and it takes a lot of training to get a horse to the point where you can shoot off of them and they don't get spooked by the gunshot. I can't imagine fireworks for one not trained for that.
Agreed. My town sounds like a war for a fucking week and a half every year, we had a house catch fire this year, not to mention all the fingers blown off. Just grow up people, they're fucking toys.
I loved fireworks as a kid but I've heard too many horror stories and seen to many scared animals... It's time to move on, find other quieter ways to celebrate. Heck, even silent fireworks would be better if we can't move on from exploding lights.

Fucking fireworks.
kellokellsmf
I about died. Thought they were holding a baby

I'm most likely in the minority but I have been a big proponent for outlawing fireworks altogether. There are very few pros and a ton of cons.

Poor thing, must be terrified

I've only met one dog that cares about fireworks, and I've seen her go apeshit over snow so she's always nervous.

2,000 lbs pressing on a small diameter hoof, no problem. Right?

Looks like they fell out after the horse passed by, i'm thinking the cart wheel knocked over their chairs.

Must have been a fun call to the insurance company, a cannon wrecked my car is prolly one of the rarest claims they get.

We are Farmers! Bum da dum dum dum dum dum

Yeah but all those insurance companies were calling the owner of the cannon and horses…

Right up there with "my car was crushed by a flying chunk of exploding whale."

Firing the cannons as they ran?

Sadly, no.

Horses are notoriously bad at holding their fire.

Don't blame the horses, they definitely saw the whites in their eyes.

No Florida?

Could be Blackpool in England.

What makes you think it is Blackpool?

They got those kinds of horse drawn carriages there, too.

Russia somewhere judging on the licence plate. Pre or post-invasion doesnt seem to make a different. Place is a madhouse
HillOfBeans
Oh thanks, somehow I watched a few times and didn’t even notice plates. I was looking at the carnage.
TomBrokaw
Looks like St Petersburg based on the "178" and according to this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vehicle_registration_plates_of_Russia
HillOfBeans
Thanks, Tom Brokaw.

People with whichever license plates can drive to other countries

It could be anywhere from East Germany to Balkans and elsewhere, but to me it looked reminiscing of Latvia/Riga!

I've only seen thay style of plate in Russia

Horses and fireworks don't really mix.
WorkerLurker
Have to train them for it, like for battles in the old west
Dogstar23
And umbrellas by the way. They do not like umbrellas as all

Except those specially trained horses that Carmen Sandiego stole. Lipizzaner stallions.

Police horses are trained to deal with it.
CinnamonBunny
Didn't look like a police horse to me.

I think fireworks cause a bit too much trauma to plenty of people and should outlaw them or reduce their usage significantly
TheGriffin
UAVs are quieter, more functional, cooler, and more considerate
jeejeejerrycotton
I think they should be outlawed for other reasons.

Last NYE there was a call in Estonia not to light any fireworks in a gesture towards the Ukranian refugees lodged there

That's how you can tell that in a terrible world there are still many good people.

I know someone with a glass eye due to a firework injury. He wasnt even the one lighting it, just an accident. Poor dude
jadanks
Yes, let’s ban things that we don’t like. Its the American way.

Bruh. It's harming a significant portion of the population through PTSD and blown off fingers. Don't be obtuse

That and you know pollution in the air
