If you're replacing the CV axle, it may be that axle is made for ABS and your vehicle isn't equipped with an ABS system.

Axles with and without the ABS rings are the same otherwise (at least on everything I've worked on).

That is odd it has a slotted nut and then the pin is so far away. Usually a cotter pin is outside a normal nut, or you have a safety (1/5)

Looked at your pics again more closely. There should be a thick washer between the C/V nut and the wheel bearing.
