Congrats, Imgurians! You raised $6,560 for the SPCA!

Throughout the month of December, the SF SPCA shared awesome stories about cats and dogs that have come through their facilities

We posted these stories with the hopes that we'd inspire some Imgurians to join the fight against animal cruelty and overpopulation. Combining direct cash donations and the sales from the Pets of Imgur calendar, $6,560 was raised!

In case you missed it, here were some of the awesome stories that inspired Imgurians to donate.

The story of Sherbert, the cat who lived.

Sometimes the SPCA come across an animal so wounded that they’re not sure if he or she can ever be healed. Sherbert the cat was a patient like this: by the time he finally arrived at the SPCA, the terrible wound gaping on his forehead was so large that it seemed improbable he would ever be healthy again.

Oliver the three-legged whirlwind

After facing some terribly cruelty, Oliver lost a leg, but he never lost his spirit.

The Story of Lobstah

This 4-month-old kitten was found in the streets in San Francisco. That ridiculously oversized paw that makes him look like he’s part-crustacean? He was born like that. He was also born with an underdeveloped diaphragm and pericardial sac (the protective sac surrounding the heart).

Truly a magical creature, Lobstah defied all logic by making a speedy recovery. Undaunted by his very close call, Lobstah quickly returned to his favorite activity: endless muffin-making.

Daffodil the Brave

Daffodil was abandoned in a box on the street. Even though many noticed the tiny dog, nobody stopped to help. Eventually one kind man brought her into the SF SPCA, where they made a custom prosthetic for her.

But wait! There's more!

On top of the $6,560, Imgurians also donated another $1,000 in pet toys and gifts!

I got a chance to go to the SPCA last week and see your gifts in action.

An Imgurian donated that cat tree that's now being used in the main adoption center window! How cool is that?!

We also got to play with some kittens while we were there.

This little guy was ready to jump out of his car and off the Golden Gate bridge...

Right into the angry jaws of the sharks swimming below.

Fear not, he was saved and promptly cuddled.

The dog condos have treat holes where the dogs are rewarded with healthy snacks throughout the day.

We even got a behind-the-scenes look at the clinic, where 30-40 animals are spayed/neutered daily.

The money Imgurians donated goes directly to the animals to help heal them, fill their bellies, and make their temporary home cozy.
