This memorial image is only projected at certain times during the Year, one is Veterans Day
A stunning image for Veterans Day shows a light coming through a specially designed memorial that perfectly lights up the Great Seal of the United States! It's a magnificent homage to America's veterans, who light the way for our entire nation. This is Anthem Veterans Memorial in Anthem, Arizona.Designed by Anthem resident Renee Palmer-Jones, the five marble pillars represent the five branches of the United States military.
They are staggered in size and ordered in accordance with the Department of Defense prescribed precedence, ranging from the United States Army, the United States Marine Corp, the United States Navy, the United States Air Force and the United States Coast Guard.
Anthem resident and chief engineer, Jim Martin, aligned the five pillars so that at precisely 11:11 a.m. on Veterans Day (November 11), the sun’s rays will pass through each of the five pillars’ elliptical openings to illuminate a glass mosaic medallion of the Great Seal of the United States.
A fitting tribute to our nation's veterans.

Pretty sure I can see this image on any day of the year.

Draw Patrick over it and see if people find it funny.

The sun takes a given path twice a year. Nov 11 = 40 days before Winter Solstice, so 40 days after WS = Jan 30, the image is also visible.

neat!

That's pretty amazing

In 13000.they are going to ask how we build it and if we had help from aliens.
maxzero
Each circular shape with an uncanny ratio of radius to circumference. Obviously aliens did it, how else could they have known about pi?

Got an sauce for who built it/came up with the idea?

Hundreds of years from now, when scavengers roam the land, this will be a landmark to behold.

I live in Phoenix and I didn't know this. Thank you.
sendep7
lets be honest. you can see the image on other days, it just wont line up properly, i mean its not even lined up properly in this photo.
sendep7
looks like the photophrapher got there a bit early.
Butane9000
In thousands of years when humans are long gone will the successor race (most likely Monkeys/Apes) wonder what this was for?
radioactivmufin
Oh cool another picture of home town, honestly it looks better in pictures than person
Omny
On every other day at 11:11, it's a picture of Ronald McDonald high-fiving Abe Lincoln
idiotn00b
Makes you proud to be an american
SuperDramaticFusion
I thought it was Ronald McDonald fellating Abe Lincoln while getting stuffed by Mickey Mouse.

Rustynuts69
I would really like to see this.
photographergal
What if like, garbage gets stuck in there? Or a bird nests...? Damn...
thehungriestandy
It's awesome, but no way is that only visible one day of the year. The sun's position in the sky relative to where we are in orbit (1/2)
thehungriestandy
(2/2) wouldn't change that drastically over a period of 3 days. I could be wrong (and probably am), but I'm skeptical. Sounds clickbaity
XaiaX
Depends on how perfectly you want it lined up, but it should actually happen 2 days a year, since it's not a solstice.
XaiaX
Or an equinox.
NateOfAmericans
Good thing it wasn't cloudy.

Why am I the first person the upvote this...three hours in?

I'd love to see this some day. It's 40 miles north of my house. I'm very lazy
geiokami
Seriously how much planning and science goes into making it only work one day a year.
DonaldDoge
That's a thing?
missingdodo
Well. The round picture is always there, only the spot of sunlight lines up differently on different days. Not a magical as I thought.
Kings2You
Thousands of years from now they will think our country's God was a bald eagle.

Not to hijack an American post : Canadians can see a similar thing at the war museum in Ottawa. I love these kinda things.
Sark0721
Yeah... The American post from the British man....
ArkOfCat
??? All i was posting was that Canadians can see something like this too. and where does it say anything about the British?

Exactly. Harambe got 10,000 votes and not 10 people showed up for this magnificent bastard???
TotallyNotDitto
They are there, they're just in camo.
BerthaMasonIsInMyAttic
As an Arizonan, Anthem is like barely even a city on the outskirts of Phoenix. Not a large population, so maybe not often visited?
BerthaMasonIsInMyAttic
Just a guess
lifeisbetterthanideserve
My question exactly. If it was a once a year occasion I would imagine it would be much more crowded
XaiaX
Since it's not on a solstice, it can't actually be once a year.
XaiaX
Though, last time I tried to do the math, I realized it'd have to be a different time of day.
BrazilianThunderPanda
Photoshop. Put camera on tripod take several pictures in 15 minutes, clone stamp areas from each picture to get a single clear picture.
drphaust
Derp.
Douglas747Tristar
This usually works, until you have a subject only visible for 1 minute per year
GasBandit
There's an easier way than clone stamp - put em in layers, then layers->smart objects->stack mode-> mean. Boom, tourists gone.

Is it ironic we only ever see this one photo of it. There are lots of them but this is the go to repost pic
AWitlessIdiot
That sun glare.... so hot right now!
grammarfairy
Well OP explained that we could only see this one image on Veteran's Day.
ProfessorDumbass
Obviously Google hides it the rest of the year so the anticipation can build up again
zozororo
It's cause it's in a huge kids railroad park. On the other side is like a 3 story jungle gym and a splash pad like 50m away
ButIThinkItLooksOK
THIS IS MY PHOTO! THERE ARE MANY LIKE IT, BUT THIS ONE IS MINE!
ProfessorDumbass
I am under the impression you may have served in the military...or you like to quote movies LOUDLY when claiming copyright
ButIThinkItLooksOK
No to both. This photo is in focus and not blurry/shaky. That wouldn't be the case if I had actually shot it.
ForeignShepherd
I always wanted to see it in another angle too.
zozororo
The other angle is a giant jungle gym and a railroad park for kids.
ProfessorDumbass

What? Like we wouldn't spend billions to move it a fraction of an inch every year.
cmfler
You're talking about the sun, right?
ZaeMillion
As an American, I am 100% sure we would spend billions of dollars to...move the sun a fraction of an inch back where to it was.
ThiccLikeThor
As an American and a veteran, we would 100% do this.

Earthquakes can also change it and even cause the speed at which the Earth rotates to change.
