Makes me think of how Thermopylae was in the time of Leonidas and Xerxes: where steep cliffs dropped down to the sea with only a narrow strip of shore where troops could march.
30 years ago I went there. I thought it was the most beautiful island in the world with the most open, welcoming people. I went for a run there, and workmen stopped me to give me their water. No creepy vibe, just kindness. Now, sadly, it’s developed and owned by resorts and the wealthy.
I was there in 1990. The local beach we were going to was Porto Zorro. At that time, the car park could fit maybe 12 cars, and the only thing on the beach was a taverna and a few umbrellas. Today the same beach has a hotel, bars, parking for 50-100 cars, and the beach covered with umbrellas. At that time, Laganas was the resort town. We went once and it was awful then, when it was one road, today is so much worse.
