This weekend he and I talked seriously about getting married next summer before he goes off to med school. But he’s been volunteering at the covid hospital in our city for experience (and really enjoying it) and now has symptoms of covid: productive cough, feverish, chest pains. On top of that he has an underlying condition that makes it difficult for his lungs to get rid of fluid, plus asthma.
When this pandemic all started I had that initial panic and worry for him. Then again when he said he wanted to volunteer. Through tears I told him “you’re going to get infected”. I don’t want this to be an I told you so moment.
It’s terrifying. He left early from his shift at the hospital and called his doctor to see if he can get a test. There’s nothing I can do. Thanks for letting me spill.

If you survive without complications, now might be better than later when the hospitals are much more crowded.

I wanted to make a joke about saving money not having a wedding but this is really sad, hope he gets better

He considered that he’s young, in good shape, eats a good diet, and they have good protocol, and decided he would rather help others.

Honestly he shouldn’t have even been allowed to volunteer with those preexisting conditions. Not a bright person
