He got impeached twice in his first term. Nothing happened. He's definitely not getting impeached when he's got full control over all three branches of the government. If the people who voted for him are feeling betrayed, their only recourse is to exercise their second amendment rights.
The "600,000 from China" comment doesn't ring so much as "we need skilled labour" as "we need lots of cheap labour because we chased off the 'illegal' labour we've been profiting off". That indentured-style labour was/is an essential part of the US economy, and while it's good they were taking steps to fix that issue I'd have preferred they just.. pay those people who were already there. Back to the 1880s import people from china thing I guess.
They already are. ICE is primarily targeting brown people, but most h1b holders are from Asian countries (China, Nepal, India, etc...). They typically come to the US on student visas and then get an h1b to stay and work in country. While the number of foreign students is decreasing, it's only down (less than) 1% from last year, which will have virtually no effect on the number of h1b applicants.
Plus there's a LOT of jobs that may have used an H1B visa to bring someone into the country but companies have started to just work with those people as independent contractors working remotely from their home country.
Why come to this shithole of a country and be subject to racism and maybe random deportation when you can just adjust your sleep schedule and work remotely? Especially if you already live in a place with a cheaper cost of living.
As an American, stay tf away. It's a real shithole here, and no matter how many legal hoops you jump through for your visa or even if you gain citizenship, ICE will still kidnap and disappear you just for looking different.
Someone finally explained to him that over half of our grad students, PhD researchers, and similar-level experts are foreign-born, and how his immigration bullshit is destroying virtually every advanced industry in the US. This exchange is the result of whatever amount of that briefing he was able to mentally process.
They can't comprehend that Trumpism means China pretty much wins at everything by default and we give up any credible claims to being #1 at anything besides being backward as fuck
What do Republicans care about all those "elite" jobs. All they want are factories and mines. Mines and factories and people working their whole, short, miserable lives in them. Just like to good old days.
Didn't his secret police, I mean ICE agents, round up a bunch of legal Korean workers at a factory? And then deport them?
They were H1B visa holders and yet they were treated as shittily as anyone who isn't a white Republican. Why would anyone want to go to the states right now? work or tourism?
Well money talks very loud, so by increasing amount payed it's possible they get some top talent, however shrinking that base will make sure that new talent won't pop up anywhere near
Mom was in Turkey with a bunch of Canadians (she's American) All Canadians said they would not visit US in this presidential tour and likely for a long while. And the Turkish... Oof. I moved to Mexico right before Trump, and can say that I hear the stories and am meeting the deported by chance now, there are that many. Amazing people, sad tales told.
I've said it on here before. I am a very white Canadian and planned on taking a month off work next year to go walk the length of the Superior Hiking Trail. There is no way that's happening now. I have family members that were going to spend a few weeks traveling around the US visiting various ballparks and cities they haven't been to yet this last summer. That was cancelled too. *shrug*
Hyundai's still "committed" to building the factory "in full legal compliance". They talk the language of money. They don't give a fuck about the wellbeing of their workers any more than Americans do.
Correction, as it turns out that they weren't Hyundai's "employees", legally speaking, then I suppose they're contractors or something. Nonetheless, I expect Hyundai to demand that they drop it.
To quote NYT, » “My top three priorities are U-S-A,” José Muñoz, chief executive of Hyundai Motor Company, the car-making subsidiary, said at the company’s annual investor gathering after the raid in New York
I think there was a missing comma there and the shit was used for emphasis rather than as an adjective. As in: Shit, tourist... But yes, definitely ambiguous as written.
Poo can tell you a lot about a culture such as their diet. Embrace it and see that poo is natural. Breathe in and gag as the shit assaults your nostrils. Feel it break apart as your toes dig into it. Can you see it? The vast poo empire that stands in front you. A post hangs in the distance with the words shit smeared on it.
I _think_ they meant that as an exclamation for emphasis before the real content of the sentence, "shit!", which would more traditionally be written with a comma afterward: "Shit, tourists are scared to come". I could be wrong, though.

So he's saying he wants more immigrants. Got it. That totally tracks with .... everything else.

There absolutely are talented Americans capable of the jobs. Companies just don't want to pay fairly.
CouldntCakeLess
Good luck, doubts on any real talent willing to go there.
KarenFromTheHOA
They may have filtered immigrants so that mostly right wing crazies still want to and most others are reevaluating their options

They don't want talent, they want cheap labour.

Wonder if it was Cognizant or Tata that paid him off this month.

Tata steel? Is that really highly trained labor? I figured it'd be like a lot of productiob jobs, but with some spicy risks.

Tata runs a pretty annoying technology division that replaces US jobs with basic flunkies.

Shit tourists are scared to come here now with his little gestappo running about. Good luck attracting the "smart" ones.
SlowboatToShortbus
Good luck attracting anyone who wants to pay the $100,000 fee Trump has going for new H1B visas.

I misread this wrong at first due to the lack of punctuation after the first word.

Or after the raid on the Hyundai's battery factory. ICE will absolutely go after H1B visa holders to pump their numbers.
Corrodias
Hyundai's still "committed" to building the factory "in full legal compliance". They talk the language of money. They don't give a fuck about the wellbeing of their workers any more than Americans do.

Unless they resort to slavery, they and other companies have to find workers willing to risk Guantanamo Bay treatment but without the nice weather.
Soufange
Except for that giant class action suit filed by all the people who were harassed and detained.
Corrodias
Yeah. Well, we'll see how that goes. I'm surprised it got that far. I expect Hyundai to cave and demand that its employees drop it.

Has work restarted? Have Korean workers returned? :3

I have no idea, but the event only delayed the schedule by "2-3 months", according to Hyundai, so they're likely back at it by now.
