#62 my “Doug” kowtowed to corporate instead of standing up for his store and employees, contributing directly to the enshittification of the store and my departure. He was a good guy outside of work, but no manager should be trusted
TheDreadPirateMontoya
All the Dougs I've worked with have been genuinely great people stuck in middle management positions that always have to bend the knee to corporate. Wasn't their faults, but that's just how it worked out for them.

wabitgirl
I didn't need a receipt for a donut in the 90's, and I sure as fuck don't need an account to order a panini now, goddamn it. I will, every time it is an option, call a place directly and have THEIR DRIVERS deliver it. Fuck the apps, fuck ubereats and the like, I will pay the delivery driver to deliver my food, wearing the proper company attire, and I will tip them a few bucks and weed if they smoke it, goddamn it. If you demand an account with my personal info? I'll find a different supplier.

My pharmacy starts texting me on Thurs to tell me my prescriptions are ready. Texts Thurs, Fri, Sat. I go in on Saturday. Prescription is not ready. It will be 45 minutes if I want to wait, but they don't have one of my medications, so it will be Tuesday for that one. Tell them I'll be back Tues. Text its ready Tues. Its not ready, it will be 20 min. Fine, I'll wait. My insurance doesn't cover it. Ask them if they're using my old insurance I keep asking them to remove. They are. Every Time!
Tekktokk
This is my wife and me at rental car places. When it is our turn? 2 minutes. But we waited 30 minutes for the 3 people in front of us. Even when I do National and go grab my car then leave, and there are people at the gate that take 5 min, and it's 30 sec when it is my turn. What are they doing!?!?
PM79
Every time I have gone, that was exactly my experience.
ThotCriminal666
Me too, without fail. I wish there was an express line for people who aren't there to enjoy a nice argument with a pharmacy tech and just want to get their shit and get the fuck out.

You may not have a car or access to a pharmacy with a drive through but that is exactly what you're looking for.

The crazy thing is that The Simpsons started out as a portrayal of a LOWER middle-class family. The first full episode was about Homer trying to get enough money to afford Christmas presents for his kids. The Simpsons didn't change, while the world around it shifted everything downward, with wages stagnating and effectively lowered with inflation, housing prices outpacing inflation, less benefit, or costs like healthcare exploding, etc.
Santac99
You accidently wrote “world”, where it should say “USA”. Lots of places does not follow that path.
marsilies
Fair.
marsilies
Also, Homer got all that without a college degree.
KarenFromTheHOA
#22 you can have latex for $0 + learning how to write latex, and your documents will end up looking nicer in the end and it's easier to deal with citations, too. And the updates are free and if you ignore updates it will just keep working. And you can use overleaf if you need cloud support like google docs, or you can keep your latex sources in a git repo on whatever server you choose, including github. And it works on every operating system, including the old piece of crap in your closet.

I guess I shouldve bothered to capitalize it properly: LaTeX is a free, open source, and very powerful typesetting system. Especially useful for preparing research papers. Also good for avoiding blood pressure spikes related to MS word moving figures in weird ways as one types.

#3 I never get this level of grumpy. It’s free ice cream and 30 minutes away from your desk. You don’t have to do the “social” part.
Tekktokk
Fair, but the only time I was ever fired I was told part of the reason I was being let go was I never came to the after work socials and would just go home instead lol
marsilies
If they're outside normal work hours though, fuck that. I'm going to go home and spend it with the people I care about.
Flooferdoof
I do agree with that. But some people like that, and it’s cool too. If you don’t want to join, no harm no foul. But free ice cream at 3 pm and no bad screens? Okiedokie!

Aww man, that one french girl when we were in Egypt. I was 16, she was 17, I spoke a tiny bit of french, she spoke a bit of english, and we both spoke okay spanish. We spent literally 24 hours straight hanging out, watched the sun set over the desert and rise over the Suez Canal... I thought she was cool, figured she just didn't want to hang out with her family. After she held my hand for two hours, watching the sunrise TTwTT I was an idiot.

Nothing a pedantic, austere, severe, tight-ass teacher hates more than a student who is still a shining ball of rebellious joy AND manages to satisfy all their dumb, arbitrary regulations, so cannot be actually punished without revealing inappropriate bias against said student.

#19 its because Europe is old country and your dryer vents haven't been cleaned in 75 years.
SofaH3ro
Might also be energy use regulations
Trigfire
That post confused me a little, cause my dryer works pretty damn well and so does my parents' that we had for 25 years, so I'm not sure where in Europe this guy is getting shitty dryers
andmysoundslaiddownbytheUnderGround
Italy.
Veh1
Well there's your problem. European homes often don't have dryer vents so most people use condenser dryers which kinda suck.
wmnii
Japan was the same. Every drier in Tokyo just
....doesn't dry at all.
PupuBlue
I wouldn't think the average age of a dryer would be higher in Europe. If anything, I'd assume lower, I think they saw wide-spread adoption much earlier on the other side of the pond. The average age of a house, however, is higher, and this exact combination means less preparation on the house-side. Also I think largely gas-powered in the States and electric here?
Wallaceman105
It's not about the dryer age, its the vents built into the house. Those need to get cleaned out regularly too
KaptainObveeus
Here in Canada I've only seen electric, and I've seen both normal working ones and people in apartment building complaining that it takes many cycles to dry the clothes. In those cases its because the vent is clogged so the moisture isn't being removed. I helped a contractor hired to clean the vents and it took him a couple hours to do one vent. He said the landlord admitted it hadn't been done in 20 years.
InitHello
I lived in the US for a while, only ever saw electric dryers.
textilelover
My dryer is electric and works a treat.
Colopty
Might also just need to play around with the settings a bit.
Though as a side-note, European dryers often use a different design from the American ones, and don't have a dryer vent.
IHaveGreatKittenRecipes
Yeah ventless driers are a cool concept, but in reality are just a humidifier with a spin cycle. You gotta make the wet *go away*, not just warm it up and hope thermodynamics took the day off.
KaptainObveeus
Apparently they condense the water vapor with a condenser (cold coils) and send it down the drain
ministryofpeace
This is correct. Either the old condenser or heat pump versions
Colopty
Oh they still have an exhaust, just not a vent, so they do make the wet go away from the clothes. Like I said though, the setting matters, some of the dryer programs are intended to not fully dry the load.
satanslittleposter
Yup, our ventless drier works perfectly to dry the washing (am in Italy).
TheRealFireFrenzy
ditto in my Dutch kitchen... Actually checked the manual and there isnt a vent... Thought that was weird since i didnt know there were vent less ones!
