So we started with my dad's old umpire chestguard.
Then templates...
More templates...
And then cut up sintra. We used the 1/8" for the plates. I also started freehanding some of the plates when we realized that the templates weren't going to fit the umpire gear at all.
I bought a big piece of leather which we wrapped over shaped EVA foam here.
The back piece, fully wrapped.
Cut out sintra for back plates.
My brother, after we started leather wrapping the chest.
The FIRST paint job, partially complete.
Shoulders/collar version 2.
Shoulders/collar version 1.
Shoulders/collar version 3, plus more paint.
We were trying to solve the articulation around the neck and shoulders here. It was going...not well.
Still not working.
Suddenly, massive improvement.
More of my dad's umpire gear. This time, shins, repurposed.
Former Nerf gun, post paint job. I should've taken a picture beforehand, but hey. We got excited. The scope didn't make the final build.
A friend of ours modeling an idea for shoulders, and experimenting with a thrift store leather jacket.
And then halfway through, the duster showed up.
[And it's awesome]
Then my brother started getting creative with his leatherwork.
Bindings to make the vest wearable.
Rivets.
Paint job mark 2.
Paint job mark 2, finished.
But then...
My brother got aggressive with weathering...
And it didn't really work.
I was unhappy with this. It was too heavily damaged.
Experimenting with the duster + vest for the first time. It didn't really fit.
Then my helmet came in.
All the gear started coming together about this point.
And this is after paint job mark 3. Crappy photo quality due to poor lighting and a filthy workshop mirror.
This holster makes me SO HAPPY. Was made out of leftover leather scraps wrapped around one of the shoulder pieces we wound up removing from the umpire vest.
Knee guards. I freehanded these because we didn't have a printer handy. Then riveted elastic velcro straps on.
Helmet and bracers - post paint, pre final weathering.
Finished helmet.
Pistol, needing touchups but basically finished.
And the finale...
Helmet seems a bit big on me, but at this point...
I don't even care, I'm just thrilled to be finished.

Op awesome work!!!
arock133
It has a very Mal Reynolds feel to it. I like it.
Nightcaste
About the paint coming off during weathering: you need to rough the surface of the plastic or the paint won't adhere.
wyndryder
Yup. I forgot the first time, got annoyed and went HARD on the sandpaper for paintjob mark 3. They look great, now.

Jetpack?
wyndryder
Nah, man. The duster was more important for this build than the jetpack. I don't think I could make them work together.
LuukeSkywalker
Yea I really like the duster look for looking like he's laying low. Kinda stick out when you have a jet pack with a misslelauncher on ur bak
LuukeSkywalker
Burn the duster
BigAlsRibShack
Definitely impressive

SanSabaSongbird
I tried to think of something funny to comment but honestly I'm just impressed +1. Really good work
SBartlett

I gotcha fam, "Does this armor make me look Boba Fat?"
SanSabaSongbird
Damnit!! I like you.
IMostlyCorrectOtherPeopleAndFavoriteBoobs
Dude, finished product first and foremost! Upvote anyway. +1
wyndryder
Honestly I was just making the album so I could post this to the Mandalorian Mercs website, I didn't expect it to blow up like this >.>
IMostlyCorrectOtherPeopleAndFavoriteBoobs
It's looking sharp as hell, nevermind me - good job man.
IWishIWasBlank
Obligatory 'finished product in top picture' complaint (not really.) Noice cosplay man.
wyndryder
Honestly I was just trying to host the pictures for another site. I posted to the gallery by accident

Mandalorian NCR Combat Ranger?
wyndryder
We actually had a picture of the NCR Ranger hanging over the workbench we built this at (along with several other pictures) as 'concept art'
TallgeeseIV
Well you nailed it, great job!

Before the helmet that was my first thought
IamtheMonkeyKing
New mandalorian Republic?
MountainLionPhoto
Also it's NCR Veteran Ranger
TallgeeseIV
Veteran ranger was the upgrade with green armor, both had the coat, could be based on either really.
TallgeeseIV
Actually i think you're right. I'm thinking of the riot version.
MountainLionPhoto
I was under the impression Desert Ranger were the green ones, Veteran Rangers were the black ones.

Makes sense. Mandalorian armour first appeared in "Umpire".

OP: What gives you the right? What's the difference between you and me? Boba Fett: I'M NOT WEARING HOCKEY PADS!
redloki55
Where did you get the coat @op?
wyndryder
Thejacketmaker.com. I cannot stress enough how much I love it, it's exactly what I wanted
redloki55
actual leather, or patent/genuine leather?
wyndryder
I am not an expert on leather and I could be wrong, but it was advertised as actual goat leather for the one that I bought.
redloki55
I see on the site, looks legit and good, thanks!
rosstheirish
Looks great. Ke nu'jurkadir sha Mando'ade!
themightysquig
Ace build mate. The helmet looks like a decent fit. @op are you planning on joining up with the mmcc?
wyndryder
I'm going to try, but the armor isn't approvable as is. Detail work needs to happen.
TheOmegaMando
That a Head Shot Props helmet?
wyndryder
Negative. I got it from a shop called ForgeProps on Etsy for like $100.
TheOmegaMando
Also, I'm a Ruus'alor for Naast Clan. This is a great looking kit so far. I hope you reach out to your local clan.
TheOmegaMando
They'll help you take this to the next level
RC3117
Your kit is definitely almost ready to pass. Others have pointed out a lot of the little things, and I have a few more. 1/?
RC3117
1. Chest diamond area is a bit squished, and tight compared to the rest of the chest. 2. Your blaster is an obvious NERF gun gotta 2/?
RC3117
change it so its not obvious, and its hard with NERF. I recommend looking up some simple stencils of SW guns you like and modifying from3/?
RC3117
there. 3. The shoulders need some love, armor of some kind. 4. The pockets on your pants may or may not have to go.
TheOmegaMando
He potentially could. Needs another belt item and some shoulder armor. A Brown wash will make those plates POP.
themightysquig
I've been out the loop the last few years. Where's the crl's stand on sports gear? I guess Itl be fine as it's all wrapped/ doesn't look it.
TheOmegaMando
sports gear needs to be completely unrecognizable. So he's hit that.
TheOmegaMando
But the Ump shins as bracers needs modding to not look like plain sports equipment.

Mandalorian mercs costuming club. A world wide group that dress up in armour and do events like comic conventions and charity events.
myweaknessisstrong
I love it, the duster is a SUPER nice touch. Where did you get it @OP? Also, about the weathering, I think you have the concept of how it /1
myweaknessisstrong
works wrong. Flat beskargam pieces are gonna wear on their "flat" areas, not on the edges, because the "flat"parts are exposed to more /1
wyndryder
Duster came from thejacketmaker.com. As for the weathering, the whole plan I had was to make it look like it was never intended to be/1
wyndryder
completely painted, which is why all the edges are silver. I assumed some of those clean lines would get worn or scratched in the desert.
myweaknessisstrong
wear and rub from daily use. And on your bucket, the seams near your visor won't have wear, but grime build up from lack of cleaning. /3
myweaknessisstrong
Try getting some low grit sandpaper and give some attention to the wear spots to give them more character, and less appearance of borders /4
myweaknessisstrong
Maybe get some paint, water it down and put dirt in it, then try applying it to any seams. Experiment, less is more. But I'm gonna say, /5
myweaknessisstrong
You NAILED your look, OH! consider adding some grimed up old patches to the jacket to give the impression of an old campaigner! Such a /6
RebbyRebReb
Looks fucking awesome man, are you going for the mando mercs costume group?
wyndryder
I'm hoping to, but there are a ton of details I need to clean up for it to be approvable.
RebbyRebReb
Good luck dude, don't be afraid to ask them, too. I'm part of the 501st, and we love new people! (if you have, you're awesome)

Boots?
wyndryder
What do you mean? I'm wearing boots. Though I have a second pair I might use instead that are higher up the calf.
jewishdoctorassassin
I'm saying I like your boots alot and want to buy a pair. I was kinda asking what brand of boots you are wearing....
wyndryder
Ah. I bought them at Goodwill, but there's a brand on the heel. I'll check when I get home
jewishdoctorassassin
Cool cool!
wyndryder
Bottom of the boot says Timberland
