Pilot here, analyzing radio calls, procedures, flight tracking…. The PAT25 helicopter was on a published route along the river which states the helicopter altitude should be 200ft. According to radar footage available, PAT25 remained at 200 until moments before impact when PAT25 ascended into the final approach path of the CRJ. This really should not be a political topic even given the circumstances. That said, the response from our president was absolutely appalling.

Yup. I really wish we could discuss the facts of this without it devolving into factionalism. Trump is an idiot, but the staffing levels pre-date his administration, and he was at least correct when he said "he was flying too high". Really wish he'd keep out of it though and let people work through the incident, instead of jumping in and making a safety investigation a political football. Now it'll just become an exercise in trying to argue blue v red instead of "could it be avoided, what next?"

Still really really bad. And at MINIMUM it brought a LOT more attention to the fact we have dangerously understaffed airports and trumps current policy is fire and no hire.

ASAC are responsible for air cargo security, general aviation security, perimeter and access control, and security technology. They report in to the TSA so nothing to do with air traffic control. The Black Hawk just couldn't see the airliner coming in from above and behind and was confused about the visibility call-out. The plane couldn't see the Blackhawk. The Air Traffic Control tower was unusually understaffed. One person was doing two peoples' jobs.
