police k-9 left unattended in police car

Jun 12, 2016 10:25 PM

The school officer left him in the cruiser for hours. The dog was found unresponsive. I think the officer should be charged the same way anyone else would that killed the k-9.

He should and so should all the celebrities for doing drugs and rich people for avoiding taxes. World sucks doesn't it? Not sarcasm, I'm mad

I feel for the guy but he left the dog in the car and should be charged as such.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Any officers I've known with canines loved their dogs like family. Giving this guy total benefit of doubt till I hear better. Sad for both.

10 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 2

He apparently passed out he was so broken up about it :/

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 2

Citizens are going to jail for neglected animals and he should as well. They say k-9s are cops. He deserves some justice. Poor doggie.

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 6

As a few people have said usually the cars are fine to leave them in. The guy had a breakdown when he realised what he had done.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Google "police k9 hot car" will show this happens more than you'd like to think

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

I think he should be taken to court for animal neglect charges at-least.

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 5

I strongly disagree with your punishment. it should be worse

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 3

What a jackass.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 4

fully agree. He's considered an officer when it's a civilian hurting him so he should be the same when it's an asshole cop as well.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

He should be treated like anyone else would in this situation. Okay he was distraught and sorry but what no one should be above the law.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Went to high school where he and the puppy served. Everyone is very upset by the loss.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Etowah?

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Aren't those dogs worth like 50 grand? Shouldn't he now owe that for destroying property? Poor dead puppy

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The company that installed the system designed to allow a K9 to be kept in a car should be held liable. I've installed those into cop cars.

10 years ago | Likes 462 Dislikes 19

Yeah I install them too. Some pop the door if the temp gets too high, In Lobo's case I hope never happens as he will eat someone alive.

10 years ago | Likes 28 Dislikes 0

We had them roll the windows down and kick on extra fans if the car stalled and the AC shut off.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That dog has 0 chill and +20 to seething hatred.

10 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 2

Normal that would be true but he wasn't using a k-9 equipped vehicle, just a normal squad car

10 years ago | Likes 258 Dislikes 1

Then he shouldn't have a k9.

10 years ago | Likes 209 Dislikes 2

Well he doesn't now..

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Guess CaptainHindsight was taken

10 years ago | Likes 104 Dislikes 3

I giggled.

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Assault on a police officer

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

I won't even leave an ink pen in a hot car. This was criminally negligent and a horrific waste of a good dog and taxpayer money.

10 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 9

He's liable. Yes. But how the fuck can everyone compare human mistakes to a criminal shooting a k9. Y'all need to get off your high horses

10 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 4

This!

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 3

I think the law considers all actions endangering the lives of LEOs as attempted murder.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

What an idiot

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Police Officers should be held to a higher standard. He should be subjected to the same if not worse punishment as anyone else who kills a..

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 3

...K-9 officer. But knowing the world we live in, I see a wrist slapping in his future.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

Maybe he had the air air-conditioning running like they usually do. And it failed?

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Apparently K-9 vehicles have special systems so the dog can be left in the car. He was not driving a K9 equipped car and left the dog in.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

News report says the vehicle was turned off

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Shame..

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Yes. Animal abuse / neglect, as well as indeed killing a K-9 officer. Horrible that this happened. Those selfless dogs do so much hard work.

10 years ago | Likes 80 Dislikes 20

Destruction of police property. Officer in Phoenix did it last year, charges dropped.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Wow.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Wow.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

poor dog :(

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

Cops become really attached to their police dogs - they become a member of the family. I bet he was devastated. I feel bad for him.

10 years ago | Likes 36 Dislikes 5

Yeah I saw that - this guy was a dick. I retract my sympathy for him.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Thank you

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I agree. And I sympathize. But if you kill your kid by leaving him in the car, you're still charged with negligence.

10 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 2

He himself had a breakdown & had to be taken to the hospital. I don't know what the justice system will do, but he is suffering already.

10 years ago | Likes 224 Dislikes 16

Sure, just like the Davis pepper sprayer.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 8

That officer deserved every penny: 1) spray was within policy 2) it was lawful 3) it hurts feelings of uninformed weaklings like you.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Other comment said K-9 cars are supposed to be rigged to allow dogs to stay in them. So was it mechanical failure he didnt know about?

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

For 20 minutes of action, what's the worst that could happen?

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

I just found out that he is being charged for the death of a SECOND dog. They found the remain of his previous K-9 with gunshot wounds.

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Source?

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

oh no, is he eating his snacks at least?

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

Dogs are people, you don't leave them locked in cars for hours on end. He should feel bad.

10 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 52

So much for 'Technically Right' :C

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

This was downvoted a lot but I agree, people are just pansies.

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 10

i got 90 points today for telling something they were technically right. i can take the heat :P

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

dogs are not people

10 years ago | Likes 38 Dislikes 12

oh sorry, A POLICE OFFICER DOG. The dog has elevated status because he is an officer. And more than likely more rights than a normal person.

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 30

I just read that yesterday! Frickin crazy. I'm glad that community pressure actually got an investigation to happen. F that guy.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Thank you

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Jesus. That's a lot of investigation over one seemingly accidental death. That's some hot shit.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I mean, I'm sympathetic to his own emotional turmoil after having killed his partner. But negligence is negligence is negligence.

10 years ago | Likes 75 Dislikes 8

So just cause I'm an arguer.... Say you step away from _____, suffer concussion, forget _____, and it dies. Negligence is negligence?

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

Unless said victim is something popular society doesn't approve of

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You realize that cops are above the law in any situation

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

If you accidentally murder your kid by leaving him in a car for 2 hours, well you're still charged with negligence

10 years ago | Likes 48 Dislikes 1

But it is a dog he should be reprimanded but not fired, don't ruin 2 lives over one dog

10 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 31

It's not just a dog, it's a police K9 with a rank and thousands of dollars worth of pedigree and training.

10 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 1

But they compared it to a drunk driver killing a child, which in my opinion is worth infinitely more than thousands of dollars

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 4

It would be like crashing an expensive company vehicle... that's alive. That's something to get fired for I think

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

You don't just pick those up at the local shelter

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

This is so terrible. It's tragic what happened to the pup, but I truly feel for the handler too... it seems as if it truly was an accident.

10 years ago | Likes 61 Dislikes 0

And all people that have left their kids in their car, none of them have been accidents either right? so because this was an accident its ok

10 years ago | Likes 27 Dislikes 48

There was teacher in my city were his normal commute was to go to school alone and his wife took the child to daycare. One day he had the 1.

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

I completely agree with you, I don't understand why you're getting down voted to oblivion

10 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 6

It's cool, I am Technically Right. I make points by merely saying "you are technically right" do people feel bad for parents who lost child?

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 6

2. Child but went to work and forgot he had his child. I heard they were good family and loved thier child, truly was a tragedy.

10 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

Can't really compare a dogs life to a humans life

10 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 15

Don't compare the worth of the lives, compare the contextual responsibility of the person leaving them in the car.

10 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 3

It's easy for us humans to say we're worth more than a dog. I wonder if the dogs would agree.

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 2

We asked dogs on the street to react. "Woof." "Ar-awoo!" "Woof woof woof." "Brrrr-UCK!" Well it seems dogs are just fucking stupid.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 5

Let's all remember, we are human. Mistakes happen. The article says the officer was so distraught he couldn't breath and passed out.

10 years ago | Likes 143 Dislikes 21

sounds like a good police officer, hur dur. "hey gus someone's shooting at us" "gus?" "aw shit guys gus is going full retard again"

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Your right we are all human. So, charge him and subject him to the same punishment as any other human who kills a K-9 officer.

10 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 4

Parents that forget their kids get charged as well if it dies.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Some call drinking, driving, and killing children an accident. Doesn't make you exempt from punishment and repercussions.

10 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 2

But those are human lives, that no matter what are worth infinitely more than a dogs life

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 6

May not have realized that non k9 vehicles don't have air systems for that

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I agree. It was an accident. He didn't mean to. It was negligent. And I'm sure the guilt alone will be with him the rest of his life.

10 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 8

It's a mistake when someone else does it but he killed a police officer

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

If it was you or me we would be labeled as cop killer. Why not him?

10 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 8

It'd be pretty difficult for you or me to accidentally kill a police dog since they're not in our care.

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

Doesn't matter he still killed a copy accident or not

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

"Cop feels really bad, now is exempt from due process of law and accountability" doesn't sound like how the system is supposed to work.

10 years ago | Likes 33 Dislikes 16

This. Exactly this.

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 3

Brock Turner

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yeah. That is exactly what was said.

10 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 4

Sauce?

10 years ago | Likes 314 Dislikes 4

I feel like he does need held accountable. Fined at least. I do hear they bond those dogs so it probably felt like killing his own kid.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

3 dogs dead now in his care. One possibly shot. See source below.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Sounds like the department should be taking some flack for allowing the dog to be in a non K-9 car. Those have safety measure for the dogs.

10 years ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 0

Unpopular opinion but it seems like he really feels bad about it, he should probably just be harshly reprimanded and not have his life ruine

10 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 7

I agree. Imo he seemed to really care about the dog, I'm sure he's feeling the loss and to lose his job too is a bit much for one mistake.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

At the very least he shouldn't ever be given another K9

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Sad he forgot about the poor dog :(

10 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

In Georgia too. It has been sweltering the past few days. I agree. Dude should be charged

10 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 1

A cop should never forget his partner.

10 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 1

Exactly

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Thanks... Forgot the source... I'll do better next time

10 years ago | Likes 87 Dislikes 2

No problem OP. Thanks for bringing attention to this story.

10 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

You can edit the post, and add it now.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I'm on mobile... Not sure how to do that

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Umm, he killed a police officer. This will get ugly.

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Well if he didnt kill the dog he shouldnt be treated as such. But animal cruelty is another story

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 6

So, neglect =/= cruelty? And it wouldn't be seen as negligent homicide / manslaughter if it was a person?

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 3

You can commit neglect on accident, however you can't really commit cruelty on accident. So no they are not 100% the same.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

So, treating any kind of dependant creature - dog, child, or otherwise - with enough neglect to let them bake in a car isn't cruel?

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Being cruel means to be indifferent or to take pleasure in suffering so no if you neglect on accident it is not necessary cruelty.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

"..means to be indifferent.." Which is precisely what negligence implies - that you were indifferent enough to not to take care.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Buy a damn dictionary.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I graduated from Etowah high school; this officer would regularly patrol the school with the drug dogs. I truly believe just how upset he is

10 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 2

That's not officer rich is it?

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Nope, Officer Peabody.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Small world, huh

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Not really, his name tag is in clear view.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

I mean that someone would recognize him
