Although sticking my lens out the window at 120kmh in the rain probably wasn't the best idea, I couldn't resist...
While on the way to camping this summer, it started raining as we were driving through the mountains on the Coquihalla Highway. It was beautiful and I had to take a photo, so I rolled down the passenger window and gave it a shot. To be honest I'm surprised the result was so clean... I had to keep my lens hood on because of the rain which caused the wind to knock my lens around more than it would without it. Vibration reduction is incredible!
Image info: 300mm, f/5.6, 1/1250 s, ISO 500. Processed in Lightroom CC and Photoshop CC. If you have any questions I would be happy to answer! I can also be found over at https://instagram.com/tristan.todd.photography if you enjoy my photos!

Stunning photo..marks me wish it was video to see the low clouds move.
absentimental
That highway can be very treacherous, but it's so beautiful.
Briglett
+1 for BC!!
JohnCooper61
Definitely worth a nice frame!
NeverConfusedForNaught
Were you driving as well?
tristantoddphotography
No :)

Looks like a perfect photo for a black metal album
tristantoddphotography
It does. I've licensed a photo to a cyber/industrial metal artist before... any black metal bands reading this interested? :D
ModusPonens
This is beautiful. My grandparents used to live in Sorrento, BC, and we drove that highway many times. Those days are gone now....
legendofalexis
My god this is beautiful
dmcgarry
I miss BC, thanks for sharing the love! It's beautiful #earthporn

It looks so surreal, kinda like a painting. It catches my eye. +1 comrade.

Thanks! That was the goal I had in mind :)

I'm finding out that rainstorms are calming to me I am both the lighting and the thunder.

At first I thought this had something to do with skyrim
Bramicles
Wouldn't the 300mm focal length make the subject super blurry at that speed? Or were you very far away? I tried this recently w/ poor result
tristantoddphotography
Not super far away. It was on the mountainside beside the highway. Just need fast shutter speed and make sure you brace the camera well.
NeverConfusedForNaught
I'm making this my wallpaper!
tristantoddphotography
Yay! Glad you like it :)
Lithiums
Absolutely stunning!
MoistMyEvilMoistureBuddy
Why did it have to be outside the car?
tristantoddphotography
At 300mm the lens extends out pretty far, especially with the lens hood. It made it much easier to position myself putting it a bit outside.
MoistMyEvilMoistureBuddy
Ah okay. Well the picture's pretty sweet
tristantoddphotography
Thanks!

What kind of camera were you using. I've been on a Canon Rebel t2i for ages and need an upgrade.
tristantoddphotography
If you're heavily invested in Canon glass you should just stick with Canon though.
tristantoddphotography
Nikon D750 for this one. It's an incredible camera for the price (at least if you're American), I highly recommend it.

Cool shot

Beware of a dragon. It could have 4 legs, or it could have two legs with hands on the wings.

Myeah, looks like a Skyrim screen. On another note, I'm playing Skyrim for the 11th time (more exact than unsure on the number)
BitterBasketCase
If you have it on PC you should download the Enderal mod you haven't done so. It's excellent!
Stefun
I seent it :D But finishing up on those damned Dawnguard and Dragonborn dlcs that came outta nowhere. Gonna pick up Enderal too :)

Looks like the skyrim main game menu
countingsheeps
Wooooah, yeah it totally does
FuttBuckit
I was thinking the same thing
Rivalyn
You were the passenger, right? Because that highway is dangerous enough without some driver taking pictures out the passenger window.
mjso23
The Coq is the fucking devil. I'm always xraying people from car accidents there. Sometimes in the morgue. It's crazy scary
flippywizgig
It was deleted as I was reading the title, so I'm guessing it wasn't his pic.
tristantoddphotography
What was deleted? It's my photo and definitely not deleted! But yeah, I was the passenger.
mediumsizedtittycommittee
It was theirs, they weren't driving though
mediumsizedtittycommittee
That highway is a god damn nightmare. I live super close, always read about accidents and pile ups -_-
Rivalyn
Fun story, a teamster friend of mine said he'd rather drive the Coquihalla than be stuck on the side of the QE2 outside Edmonton.
mediumsizedtittycommittee
I know nothing of that highway and will now do my best to avoid it
Rivalyn
Well, it's a lot safer when you're actually moving. Being stuck because your truck put its fan through the rad, not safe at all.

Wait... @OP, is your name Tristan? Did I just find another Tristan out in the wild?

Yes. And yes you did. Hello fellow Tristan!

someone is salty about their lack of freedom stuff

Woah. Nice car-pic. I always seem to catch a power pole in the middle of these shots. Frame that sucker and hang it in your living room.
tristantoddphotography
Thanks! There were some failed attempts due to foreground objects and a couple blurred shots but most came out well. This had the best comp.

I'd love to know the lens or whatever they used to take that. Holy cow!
Ireplietomyownpostsbecauseihavesplitpersonality
I think a old 16mp nikon dslr with like 5 different lenses. Then they combined all the pics into a massive 40tb picture.
