Pretty hard to compete when wind and solar get stupid high subsidies and are basically worthless for base load power

Storage is pretty easy: pumped hydroelectric, batteries, underground compressed air, etc.

Batteries? Do some research. Unless you find a way to make a SiO battery or something non toxic, your wind solar becomes worse for earth.

Windmills are incredibly inefficient and slaughter birds. Go find one. Watch it. Then look up the Betz limit and how far we are from it.
