Coca-Cola Vault

Where do you put the secret ingredients/recipe of the most popular soft-drink on planet Earth? This multi-million dollar vault, of course. Located in downtown Atlanta, George, the vault is a centerpiece of the World of Coca-Cola museum, and home to the ultra-confidential Coca-Cola formula.

While you can stand near the vault, you’ll never be allowed in. Unless you’re a ghost. Then by all means, cloak-a-cola your way in and read your heart out.

Poveglia Island

Poveglia Island is a lot like Hell, but if Hell was surrounded by more Italian people. The island is located off the coast of Northern Italy and boasts several hundred years of having murderous, plagued and insane people spend their last moments rage-bleeding into its soil. While it’s technically a tad more accessible that certain places on this list, we advise against even looking at this picture of it. Why? It’s extremely twisted history.

To begin, remember that little thing called The Bubonic Plague? Well, back when it was chewing up the world’s population, the Romans had the grand idea to ship all the affected people there to live out their days. From then on out, every time an epidemic came along, guess who was dumped there? Yeah. Sick and dying people. Couple that with the all the folks that died in the fucking mental hospital that was constructed there in the 1920s, and you have an island full of over 100k ghosts. And not the Patrick Swayze from Ghost kind. We’re talking the Th13teen Ghosts kind.

Snake Island – Brazil

When presented with the opportunity to visit a place named ‘Snake Island,’ ask yourself ‘What Would Indiana Jones Do?’. We can’t claim to speak on behalf of Ol’ Indy, but we imagine he’d stay the fuck away. Why? Because the island is literally one of the deadliest places on the planet. It’s estimated that the 110-acre island is home-sweet-home to 4,000 serpents — or one snake for every six-square-yards.

And we’re not talking a bunch of ‘Sir Hisses’ joyfully running amuck. These are Golden Lanceheads, one of the most venomous vipers in the world. Their bite is literally known to melt flesh. So, yeah. What Would Indy Do? He’d stay away from the evil-flesh-melting-snake-orgy-island.

The Vatican Secret Archives

The Vatican Secret Archives is essentially the Popes personal library, and ownership passes from Pope to Pope. While no one really knows all the contents of the V.S.A., it does contain things such as a handwritten transcript of the trial against Galileo for heresy, and letters from Michelangelo complaining he hadn’t been paid for work on the Sistine Chapel.

The importance of those alone coupled with the fact that there’s 53 miles of shelving makes it safe to assume there’s some crazy shit hidden there. Like personal memoirs from Jesus’ pet velociraptor. Probably. And while we could all take a page out of Tom Hanks’ book and break in Da Vinci Code style, it’s probably not worth having the angry albino monk chase you to the ends of the Earth for the rest of your life.

Club 33 in Disneyland

Originally an ultra-exclusive club designed specifically for Walt Disney’s elite guests, Club 33 now operates as Disneyland’s (extremely) private club. With memberships costing anywhere from $12,500 to $30,000 annually, and initiation fees ringing in anywhere from $25,000 to $100,000, it’s likely most people will never see it.

But honestly, who cares? It’s kind of hard to get excited over the love-child of The Illuminati and Chuck-E-Cheese.

Bohemian Grove

Looking to visit/become a member of the Bohemian Grove? Easy! All you need to do is get invited by several of the high-ranking men who are already members, wait patiently on the decades-long waiting list, pay a $25,000 initiation fee, and be into creepy occult/druid-like rituals where you sacrifice ‘children’ to large statues.

If that seems too difficult, just become President of the United States. Or a Rockefeller. Or a high-ranking General. Or an A-list movie star, like Clint Eastwood. Or a business Tycoon, like Henry Ford. Or own one of the more prominent news outlets in America, like CNN. Or just accept you’ll never go there and ride the pine with the other 99.999999% of the population.

Lascaux Caves

Discovered in 1940, the Lascaux Caves are home to over 600 ancient cave paintings that were completed by early humans. The paintings are estimated to be around 17,000 years old, and are the combined effort of many, many generations. They largely depict animals and local fauna that correspond to the Upper Paleolithic time period.

Initially, the caves were open to the public, but the carbon dioxide, heat, humidity, and other contaminants produced by 1,200 visitors per day had visibly damaged the paintings and they declared it closed. If you want to go see art, watch the Emoji Movie. Don’t bring your dirty human contaminants into precious ancient caves.

The Svalbard Global Seed Vault

Located on the Norwegian island of Spitsbergen, the appropriately named ‘Doomsday Vault’ is a seed bank that was constructed deep inside a mountain to preserve the world’s crops and plants in the event of an apocalypse. The vault contains enough seeds for us to repopulate the earth’s flora, that is unless we go all Mad Max on each other.

While Svalbard Global Seed Vault is a curious place to say the least, you’ll never be going there. The Vault is located 800 miles from The North Pole and boasts sub-zero temperatures coupled with round-the-clock security.

North Sentinal Island

The government doesn’t want you there. The indigenous tribe that inhabits the island doesn’t want you there. You don’t want you there.

North Sentinal Island is home to the Sentinelese tribe — the last people to remain totally isolated from modern civilization. Experts believe they are the direct descendants of the first humans who emerged from Africa, and have inhabited the island for more than 60,000 years. Anyone who has attempted to approach the island in the past has been met with spears, arrows, stones, and death.

8

Surtsey Volcanic Island

Surtsey Island is a protected natural reserve, that formed as a result of a four-year volcanic eruption betwwen 1963-1967. The island is revered by scientists, botanists, ecologists and biologists, as its formation has allowed them to study the ultra-rare occurrence of plants and animals colonizing a virgin island.

Only a select few scientists are allowed to visit the island — and even then they minimalize their precense as much as humanly possible. Because of this, visitation is not an option. Unless you’re some type of evil asshole Xenomorph hell-bent on destroying ecosystems to ensure your survival. You dick.

“Prominent news outlets like CNN” lmao

North Sentinal Island - Isn't everyone a direct descendant of the first humans?

One of my little brothers did a summer as kitchen staff at Bohemian Grove. He said the visitors were complete dicks the entire time.

To make coca-cola: Make simple syrup using brown sugar. Add simple syrup, agnostura bitters, water and caffeine to a glass. Carbonate. Enjoy

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

The original Pemberton recipe is on Wiki. Although it doesn't tell you to stir 18x counter clock wise before adding the neroli oil.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I have a reprint of a bar book from the 40s and it describes essentially coke without the coca leaf as a hangover cure. Not a big leap.

This was seriously hilarious.

You do realise that academics visit the "secret" archives all the time, right? Where did you get this information? Dan Brown, is that you?

8 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

If club 33 is any indication

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This is too, but to an extent. There's a plethora of the archives no one allowed to see.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

True*

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

As a Food Scientist, the Coke recipe is well known in the beverage industry.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Pretty sure, in 2018, any corporation claiming a "secret recipe" is just using holdover advertisement tactics from the 20th century, no?

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I agree. You can find them really easily. What they are allowed to keep “secret” are the exact measurements for each ingredient. That’s —>

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Why you’ll often see something “Less than 2% of the following ingredients:”. Helps keep their trade secrets.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I still marvel whenever I read about Svalbard. whEN I read His Dark Materials I thought it was sort of like middle Earth and Hogwarts

8 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

It's a regular tourist destination now.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

"now", you say. As if in past years it was really a traumatic experience for kids and their daimonions ????

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Now, as in it wasn't easily accessible before.

So, as shown, it’s not in that safe. It’s in some document on a computer somewhere...that’s secure

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Coca-Cola aren't a manufacturing company. They licence the brand and the formula to manufacturers so the recipe is all over the place.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Jokes on you OP, I am an archaeologist and therefore might be able to get into the caves of Lascaux... One day... if no one is watching...

North sentinel island - worst vacation ever

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

This gets reposted with less accurate information and pictures each time...

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 2

Thank you! I just replied something similar to someone else...

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

If I were lucky enough to survive a plane crash over the ocean, I’d be unlucky enough to end up a castaway on Snake Island.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Sentinel island is more dangerous. 100% death rate, not sure how aggressive the snakes are.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I dont need to read the coke recipe, its probably just on a single sheet, bold letters, all caps. 'FUCKTONS OF SUGAR'

And a +1 for Jesus' pet velociraptor.

There is a great video on the today I found out YouTube channel that debunks that whole myth I love that channel so much they have so many

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Videos.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You know what would be smart? To say the recipe is in that vault, but really just keep it at home burried in the back yard.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah that's what I thought too, I bet it's not even in there

Well it is a pretty exclusive club but all the shit about sacrificing babies and shit is false. Most of the people I met there are very nice

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 5

What's the point of it, though? OP's picture and description meant nothing in terms of what the membership is for, what they do there, etc.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Well the area itself is very beautiful, and there are lots of areas to explore. In addition, there are a lot of really cool performances 1/2

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

2/2 there from acts from the bay area such as Dead and Co as well as a lot of great theatre productions out on. It's a pretty cool place

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Ho wdo they keep cocacola employees in all their plants from getting together and figuring out the formula?

8 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 1

Because the formula is definitely not in that vault.

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

They don't. Coca-cola has evolved a lot through years. Coke you can buy today is not the stuff described in that recipe.

8 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0

Yup. It tastes like garbage and the only reason i drink it is sugar addiction and brand loyalty.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

Yaknow I figure if you stuck a can of coke in a gas chromatograph and ran the results through some databases you would be pretty darn close

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

and then you would probably get a visit from some very large gentlemen and their lawyers asking you very nicely not to do that any more

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

I thought you couldn't patent a recipe, which is why it was so jealously guarded.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

They have no say in the matter unless you released what you found publicly or tried to duplicate and sell it.

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Actually as a trade secret and not a patented or any other form of protected property you could do whatever you wanted provided you didn't /

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

call it coke, the point I was making is that with squillions of dollars at stake they might get mean

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Did you just copy paste this from a website? "We can't speak for Ol' Indy" sounds like it was written for an organisation.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

it was. for the website i work for.

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Tell them it's spelled sentinEl

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Hey that's fair enough

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

There was a post, like, last week of this exact list. I’ll give this post credit that he rewrote the blurbs and changed the order though.

Yes, must really have taken him forever...

Saw Poveglia Island when I was last in Venice, looked abandoned and definitely 3spooky5me.

8 years ago | Likes 103 Dislikes 2

To me it just sounds like yet another opportunity to prove there are no ghosts. I'd definitely go there if I could.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I've visited Poveglia. It was purchased back in 2014 and the owner allowed local guide(s?) access. It was a day trip but creepy none the less

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Mmh, I'd like to spend a night there... Just for funsies

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Then wake up to a band of psychotic naked barbarians wielding stone axes.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'm confused though, I thought that Rome fell before the Black death

8 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 1

The city, not the Western Empire.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

So Rome as the city state. That makes more sense
