Nowadays with "inclusivity" and such it all ends up feeling so forced. If they don't do it people complain. If they do it people complain. Everything now is offensive so it's hard to do anything. They put out a lot of stinkers back in the 70s and 80s too but we only hold onto the classics.
No one is watching Hot to Trott, Lost Angels, Uncaged, Tax Season or Computer Beach Party. In fact the only people watching them then were video rental store clerks, night security guards and people who with insomnia watching the local UHF channel midnight movie.

Yeah I'll take any random movie from today over any random movie from the 80s. My god the 80s were jam packed wall to wall with awful stinker movies. Don't get me wrong, there were great movies sprinkled in there too, and there are plenty of awful stinker today too, but overall there's not nearly as much crap today as there was then.

Selection bias. Sure. The ones we hold onto from earlier times are still markedly different than modern hits. Take zootopia 2 - a massive hit and certainly a good flick. The vibe, the pace, the writing, all of it is extremely fast. There are very few movies and shows these days that ever take the time for slower scenes. There's too much capitalist BS pushing them not to.

Low budget movies get low attention. Also, movies are less popular, and advertising them is a bit harder since you now have to target your audience (ads) and people that can afford to go to the movies can afford to avoid targeted ads. That's my hunch.

Nah, there were always low budget stinkers that cost more than they made. Either they were test balloons for a new director some exec saw a film school project of, or a producer's nephew really wanted to get into the buisness.

Yeah because nepotism is a uniquely modern problem. Nevermind that the most famous nepotistic hire in movie history is from a movie released in 1990. Also ignore the fact that the word nepotism itself is hundreds of years old. Also, let's just ignore how many movies from that time that revolve around a plot of someone inheriting their father's business. Also we have to ignore that many famous actors from back then are 2nd or 3rd generation movie stars.
