My daughter's teacher's dog is missing, presumed dead.

My daughter's teacher gave all the kids her home address so they would trick or treat her house. We went Christmas caroling and were in the neighborhood so we caroled her house too. We met her sweet, old golden retriever. It's always been my opinion that Goldens age very well. She was a sweet dog very gentle, a white muzzle and soft eyes. My daughter went back to school today after a traumatic weekend dealing with another daughter in the hospital. It was unseasonably warm over the weekend. Her husband took the dog for a walk. He let her off the leash and she disappeared. He found paw prints in the mud near the river bank. He followed the prints to a break in the ice. She must have fallen in and been swept away by the current. She either drowned or froze to death. I only met the dog twice, but I could tell she was a sweetheart.
