Glued a piece of aluminum sandwiched between 2 pieces of black walnut.
I used a clear 10 minute epoxy and roughed up the aluminum on both sides to aid adhesion between the two materials.
All set up on the drill press to core out interior dimension.

I used a hole saw attachment on my drill press to cut around the outside. This has also been ligtly sanded on a belt sander, during which one of the pieces of wood popped off because of the kind of epoxy used, so I glued it back together with Gorilla Glue which worked great!

Yes, I changed my nail polish to suit the holiday season haha
Rounded edges
I used a sanding attachment on my Dremel to free-hand the edge fillets and smooth out the inside where glue had squished out.
Sanded and polished!
I sanded up to 1000 grit and used a waterproof polyurethane coating to shine it up a bit.
All done!!
My boyfriend doesn't really like wearing rings, so I put it on a leather strap for him to wear around his neck. We've been dating for almost 2.5 years and this was sort of a 'promise' about the future I see for us together :) Sorry I'm super sappy, but I love him so much!
I don't have any pets anymore as a bonus, but I do nail art!
After my Christmas nails I had to update for New Year's Eve! :)

The wood was just over 1/4" and the aluminum was about 1/16" if I remember correctly.

I got that one from Julep (it's called Mae). It's their "satin" finish, but a lot of polish companies will call it a "matte" finish.

I know L.A. colors has matte polishes too, but I'm sure if you search online, you'll find dozens more.

1. No, I used one I had for wood and just made sure to back up often while going through the metal to let it cool down and break off chips
