A new piece call Tourist. Confusing piece move randomly at the board with dice roll, jam in with other pieces if occupied the same space

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

A weather piece, takes square regardless of occupant, determined by two 8-sided-dice after every 4 turns, if it takes your king, you lose.

7 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 3

That’s actually not a bad gameplay idea

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Go check out Chess 2 (steam) it has several armies that have unique mechanics and was made by a grandmaster (if i remember right)\.

I would like to upvote the original creator, please.

The politician as soon as it is in front of one all pawns are taken off the board

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The Kirby. It moves like the last piece it captures.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Ok i need to try this

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The Eddie Hitler.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The double agent. Both sides control this piece on their turn.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The revolutionary: moves in any direction, moves 2 spaces per turn, turns enemy pawns and knights into fellow revolutionaries, kills others

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's like somebody was trying to be a smartass without understanding how, ironically, useful that would be in chess. Like real life.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The Necromancer. Resurrect 1 piece per turn. Zombie now move forward 1 per turn & turns any it touches. All zombies fall if Necromancer dies

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The Nuke- whoever uses it, you both lose

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Reminds me of Nightmare Chess, from Steve Jackson Games. Adds a deck of cards to the game to do all sorts of things.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Paw with a gun, it’s self explanatory

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

*pawn

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It also will question every other pieces rule, ask if it has a filled form if you try move against it. Sends you back if you don't have any

7 years ago | Likes 104 Dislikes 4

In triplicate

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

My brother always used to get angry and flip the board when he knew he was to lose. As a result 50% of the pieces were random items (1/2)

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Such as star wars figures and buttons (2/2)

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The Joker. Moves in arcs.

7 years ago | Likes 64 Dislikes 2

I don’t get it.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The Wizard - It can move one space in any direction and can swap the positions of adjacent pieces to any adjacent space.

7 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

And has diplomatic immunity, any piece that takes it is also removed from the board

Has just been revoked

Nuclear missles. It's pretty great for modeling a cold war game theory, once you actually play it. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stratomic

7 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

No idea this existed. Now I gotta try it.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I wouldn’t add, I would say that at any point in the game each player can declare one piece type and each player must remove 50% of those.

7 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 4

The forced narrative of chess being a war strategy lesson is just dumb. Chess has rules, both sides are equal and you can see all the pieces

7 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 10

War has and always will facefuck anyone involved, who cares about how the knight moves.

7 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 4

It's not the absolute be-all-end-all, but it gives a starting point

7 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

Exactly. It’s the upgrade of checkers. Like connect four, they teach the need to not be reactionary; starting to think 1,2,3 moves ahead.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Assassin's Chess from Discworld. Extra piece & extra spaces for that piece to use.

7 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Better yet you dont see where the opposing assassin is and they write it down separately. If your piece lands on that spot it does. 1/2

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Similar to how the bioterrorist works in Pandemic.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Thanos snap, remove 50% of opponents pieces, and vice versa, excluding king.

7 years ago | Likes 44 Dislikes 11

Too soon.

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 3

That's a mechanic, not a piece.

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

You could make it so the Thanos piece has to visit the other end, or four/ five specific spots

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I for one support this. A slight modification though randomly removes 50% of both opponents and the player's pieces, no pieces are immune

7 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 3

Balanced, as all things in life should be.

7 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

Technically a snap can remove any percentage if people

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The Traitor: One piece on each side that can be moved by either player as a turn. Marked on bottom & moving wrong piece is a forfeit.

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

ooOOooooooo! I'm up for this one.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I was thinking Traitor or Necormancer. The Traitor can only move 2 spaces at a time in one direction (makes getting into place difficult).

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Necromancer can move in the same way as any piece that you've lost - E.G, if you have a dead rook and bishop, it can pick one >

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

per turn per move, but can't move like a knight.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The Traitor can only attack if next to a lone piece with friendly unit within 2 spaces or the enemy King is completely alone.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The necromancer unit will "convert" all units that they capture. Necromancers move either 3 squares straight or 2 squares diagonal.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Side note for the Traitor. It cannot be attacked unless attacks first.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Can be set on the board or moved in place of a player's turn. Player cannot move it on consecutive turns. - Actually sounds fun.

7 years ago | Likes 628 Dislikes 3

What’s it called?

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The Aristocrats!

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Yeah let’s find a way to make chess last even longer

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This would be far too strong in actuality. Most player's would probably use it to black checkmate and prolong the game.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Block*

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Eh, that's part of the point. You have to plan your check mates with how they can be blocked and how you can block the next move.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You can use it to defend against checkmate, it can block so you can castle properly, can be used to bait a trap, or limit an opponent's move

7 years ago | Likes 94 Dislikes 1

Ok but what shape will it be?

7 years ago | Likes 30 Dislikes 2

a one legged duck.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's gotta look like Hermes from Futurama.

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

A dildo

7 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 2

A fat cat

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

A writing desk

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Between a pawn and bishop in height, fat and round at the bottom and squared off at the top. Ugly, imposing, and all around unpleasant.

7 years ago | Likes 94 Dislikes 1

Like a vogon

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

A short, bloated, blockhead. I like it.

7 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Sounds like a Douglass Adam's quote lol

7 years ago | Likes 32 Dislikes 0

very similar to variant called duck chess. https://duckchess.com

7 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 2

oh wait... there's duck chess?!?

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I really like this idea, ill suggest it to the next person i play chess against.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

World-Serpent. It's three squares wide and eight squares long. You place it at one side of the board and it travels to the other side, (1/2)

7 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

consuming any pieces in its path regardless of allegiance (excluding kings).

7 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

Any rules on that cause I'd like to use it turn 1 on their back rank

7 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Maybe it can only move vertically? That way, at least in the early game, you'll have to sacrifice some of your own pieces.

7 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Curse you and your reasonable ideas!

7 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Also, each player can only use their World-Serpent once per game. Use it wisely!

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

That's almost half the board though

7 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Yup!

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Run me through it: the snake eats almost half the board and how does the game continue?

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It doesn't eat the board, just the pieces.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

My bad, i meant half the pieces on the board. So you start with the kingside missing?

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The SJW, whatever piece your opponent moves it automatically moves directly in front of it and speaks incessantly slightly too loud.

7 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 10

Slight change: both black and white SJW pieces work against white pieces only.

7 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 4

Also, the king has been has been renamed rapist and the queen Is the one to protect.

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

The queen can now move to any spot on the field that could be accessed by any allied piece. Doesn't matter if some man did the work to get

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

there, the queen deserves that position because she is underrepresented on the board.
