Hi. I'm Me. I want to talk about abortion.

I work at an OBGYN clinic. I've seen a variety of situations and medical conditions. I would like to discuss some of them, and some notions of conception.

In the view of medical coding, there are 2 types of abortions. The SAB, and the TAB. This is a wild simplification.

An SAB, or spontaneous abortions, occurs for a variety of reasons. Getting off or on a medication. Your diet is restricted. Your body is under so much stress that it can't create a new one. Glucose. The fucking moon set wrong. The fact is, this happens all the time. It's a goddamn tragedy. Sometimes it happens and we have no idea why. We call this a miscarriage. I've watched men and women weep their eyes out over this so many times. Spontaneous abortion: the miscarriage.

There is also the TAB, or therapeutic abortion. These also occur for a variety of reasons. The one that gets everyone fired up is the choice to keep body autonomy. A person doesn't want to build a child. I support this decision, but that's not the point of this. There are other reasons for this option. In the event of a multiple fertilization, the survival of any fetus sometimes requires a reduction of numbers. Sometimes a patient has cancer, and the attempt to carry will kill them both. Sometimes the fetus failed, for whatever reason, and needs to be removed. And other times, a fetus never formed. The gestational sac formed, but a body never developed.

Again, sometimes a sac forms with no embryo. No fetus. Nothing. And yet we comfort and console a patient. You didn't fail. You didn't kill a baby. There was no baby. I'm so fucking sorry. We have to induce labor for your uterus with no fetus in it.

Bodies are complicated. Lives are even more complicated. Claiming life starts at conception is harmful. Every time I wand a patient for fetal tones, I worry they won't be there. The women who never grew a fetus feel like killers. The women who experienced a miscarriage feel like failures. The men who support them feel hopeless. This is a generalization from observation and my own experience (one miscarriage and three live children).

I am pro-choice. I think every child should be a wanted child. I also think it's cruel to expect women to consider fertilization as humanity. Pregnancy isn't always viable, and even when it is, that doesn't mean it will come to fruition. Christians should recall that a soul enters at first breath, because even the bible understood how cruel loss could be.

I'm an atheist that believes in kindness and understanding. Be kind to people. That includes women contemplating an important choice. You have no idea what anyone is fighting. We're all just people. Be kind.

Had 2 ectopic pregnancies in the past 6 months. When your viability consult ends up in major surgery to remove one of your tubes...

The fact that American lawmakers don't understand that it's a matter of life and death sometimes baffles me.

4 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

Thank you for posting this. We were potentially going to have to abort a wanted baby because of medical issues. Luckily we didn't have to /1

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

It really feels good knowing someone understands the hurt we almost had to go through. /2

Raised by pro-life parents. Life ain't black & white. Backstreet abortions must remain a thing in the past, as they can lead to more death.

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

How to actually prevent abortions? By offering choice and proper sex ed.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I'm against any government body telling you what you can or can't do with your body.

4 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

Like going over the speed limit or taking/ selling drugs or stealing identity. Or not selling cakes.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

Conservatives don't care about decency. They care about having power over others and removing human rights if it can hurt others. That's it.

4 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 5

The continual conversation of abortion is another reason to separate church from state. Religion needs to mind its own “business”.

4 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

I’m also a pro better education and free contraception person.

4 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 3

Absofuckinglutely. Thousand percent.

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

At this point it's got nothing to do with killing baby's they just want to control women

4 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 6

Not even remotely unpopular.

4 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 6

In addition to medical needs, it is OK to decide you cannot or will not carry a fetus to term. It is a hard choice, and it is OK to make it.

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Abortion is a RIGHT. You are allowed to excersise this right even if it is a CHOICE for you no matter what the reason. I will die for this

4 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 3

If anyone didn’t hear me the first time, *I* a LIVING human would die just so ONE more poor girl can actually do as she pleases

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 3

As she so damn pleases. Not a hard concept

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

Had two miscarriages in two years. The 1st one was just a empty sac. The 2nd one I didn't even know I was pregnant.

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

good comment. 3 ppl close to me have had abortions. One was ectopic pregnancy, wanted child. Another injured in a car accident. Dr's had-

to abort fetus due to her injuries. My oldest sister - violently raped and threatened with death if she told. Dad threatened daughters with-

death if they had sex outside of marriage. This was pre-Roe. She was a teen, and had to seek an illegal abortion. It went bad, she was-

4 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 3

abandoned with me in an alley, and bled to death in my arms. I was 10. I tell ppl this, and most defend my dad and the rapist, or don't-

4 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 4

believe me. Hard to prove- she was cremated, and dad threw her ashes in the trash and told us never to mention her again. I still can only-

4 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 3

say this, it's impossible to grasp. I have forgotten my sister's name - trauma no doubt. But not what happened. She wanted to be a pianist.

Banning abortions only stops safe abortions for the ones who can't afford it, banning abortion is murder

4 years ago | Likes 55 Dislikes 2

Abortion is not safe for the baby. Therefore, no sage abortions.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

It also just straight up kills people that need abortions because of deadly pregnancies. Google ectopic pregnancy and watch the horror show.

4 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Thank you for putting this so well. Thank you for your work. We terminated in March, never thought I'd ever be in that situation.

4 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Absolutely everyone I encountered at the clinic was kind, empathetic, non-judgemental, supportive. I cried the whole time I was there.

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I'm an ICU nurse & I am there when we "pull the plug" & it's difficult to be around grieving families & not take that home with you. I don't

Know how you show up day after day to be so wonderful to us clinic patients with a-hole protesters on your doorstep. THANK YOU.

1/The Abortion "controversy" only exists where the laws against have happened, "IT'S AGAINST THE LAW, SO IT'S WRONG!" self perpetual problem

4 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 2

2/ And those laws exist in a backwards Country, buildt to be Secular Rights with "Christian" laws. Don't drag God into this shit...

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

The Lord is NOT against Abortion, and more so wouldn't want a Life of a woman taken for a so called "Murder" of a foetus.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

I'm a man, my opinion doesnt matter, but I'll fucking fight for a womans right to choose.

4 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 2

But your opinion doesn’t matter why are you fighting?

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I agree but you'll never convince the other side. They view it as child murder. I've tried. They won't change their minds.

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

So when does life begin?

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Abortion should be safe and available! And rare!

4 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 6

Democrats got rid of “rare” a while ago. Be careful.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Absolutely. It's not like people go about wanting to have abortions. But when they're needed, they should be safe and available.

4 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 4

I'm an RN planning on becoming a nurse practitioner so I can provide abortions.

4 years ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 6

What about post term abortion? like 43 years late? those okay too?

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Absolutely.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I can't even understand why this is an issue in 2022. There’s a fair bunch of topics that has gone backwards the last couple of years.

4 years ago | Likes 35 Dislikes 5

It's not an issue anywhere else in the First World except the US. Frankly my personal opinion is that the US treats women badly.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Shitty people never went away. Two thousand years is nothing, for evolution, and the age of the old empires looks pretty familiar.

4 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

There are a large group of people who think that babies are formed at fertilization. And abortion kills those babies. Does that help you?

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Having control of our lives has always angered some people. They want the good old days when we didn't have any

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

Very well said…

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

for me, first, you got no uterus, you got no opinion

4 years ago | Likes 28 Dislikes 14

Personally, I agree. I'll never carry a child, I don't want to be responsible for any laws about it. If there are any laws, let women vote

No it’s not. There are cis women who don’t have uteruses and trans men who do. Only people who can get pregnant should make these decisions.

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

I had a missed abortion. At 8W we had a healthy heart beat at 10W nothing. Fetus had stoped growing at about 8W. It had a partial molar 1/

4 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

I had two partial molar pregnancies. It’s scary. The chance for cancer goes up with each one. So my husband and I stopped trying

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

*hug* so sorry for you. My second pregnancy was heavily monitored bacuase of the PMP. Thinking about trying again gives me so much stress. 2

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

So now we have a foster :) my son loves his foster sister. Shes 15.

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

That’s great! I’m happy for you and your expanded family :3 <3

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Had the fetus kept developing it would have very bad odds if it even made it so far. But because it was a molar pregnancy the "molar" was 2

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Still releasing hcg my body didnt know to abort.

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

That’s an extremely similar situation to me+ a few of my friends. So sorry for your loss and the rollercoaster this must have put you through

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Thank you, and same to you. I heard from my specialist that now that we test earlier we notice then faster. Same with molars, used to be 1/

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Rare as a doc to see one, but now that echos are so advanced and common the. Nummbers are going up.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Would these new abortion restriction laws prevent you from an abortion? I hope I'm not being insensitive, just curious

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I live in Europe, and a very profressive country to boot. Well IDK how it would be for a woman in Texas. There was no heartbeat. But not 1/

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Doing a D&C can lead to cancer. The molar part of the pregnancy is a tumurous growth that secretes Hcg that can turn cancerous. There was a

Mental health issues, rape, incest, domestic abuse .. lots of situations out there that I can't even imagine.

4 years ago | Likes 30 Dislikes 5

Yup, I’m in the first category. I desperately want a baby, but I’m in no place mentally for it, nor can I afford to go off my meds rn.

4 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

That was a serious issue with one of our late term patients. Daily phone calls between Dr.s. She needed meds, but we couldn't induce yet.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Oh man that sounds awful. Luckily my mood stabilizers are (supposedly) safe, but trying to teach without my Adderall will be… interesting.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I also have a LOT of therapy to get through first. Dissociating to the point that I can’t move for 2 hours isn’t conducive to parenthood.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Probably going to get hate but I had an abortion because my partner developed cancer and had to have intensive radiation treatments.

4 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

Absolutely no hate from me, a fellow mom. You had another child and a husband to take care of, let alone the serious radiation

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

His doctor informed us that we shouldn't conceive any children as it would leave the child disabled, we were already pregnant.

After treatments, we couldn't even have our other child in our house, he had to sleep at my mums. That's how powerful it was

I think this interview was after the last time Petey B ran for prez. (Petey B is what no one calls him)

4 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

Had a miscarriage last week and want to kill myself. So you know, life is great

4 years ago | Likes 413 Dislikes 11

They are rarely talked about, but more common than people think. You did nothing wrong, you deserve life.

4 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

It was not your fault. The fetus was likely malformed due to errors in cell division during meiosis. If you want a baby please try again

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Talk to someone about it. My wife and I have had 2 miscarriages. We talked privately to friends and it’s a lot more common than you think.

4 years ago | Likes 38 Dislikes 1

I read recently that 1 in 5 pregnancies end in miscarriage. I previously had no idea it was that common.

4 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

This, i disclosed my miscarriage with come colleagues and i was amazed how many had been through it too.

4 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

I’m sorry for your loss :( the only thing that will help is time and love. Sending good vibes your way

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Had one in early February. Random chance apparently. Take the time to grieve ❤️

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

I'm so sorry. Please understand it often has nothing to do with you or your lifestyle. Sometimes life just sucks. It's not your fault. Sorry

4 years ago | Likes 258 Dislikes 3

Agree here - every known woman in my family has a miscarriage for their first.

4 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

I had a miscarriage and still 3 kids, if you want them. One event doesn't determine the future. Dont let this event define you.

4 years ago | Likes 182 Dislikes 1

If you don't want kids, you did nothing wrong. You can have kids or not. No one defines you or your future. You have choice.

4 years ago | Likes 146 Dislikes 1

This is wholesome as heck and I absolutely love seeing people being human and showing empathy. Sounded like you were offering them your kids

4 years ago | Likes 74 Dislikes 0

Which I thought was funny, that’s all lol. Please continue on your day being a nice human :D

4 years ago | Likes 41 Dislikes 0

Hugs ??

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I am so so sorry. But yes, to echo many others, it is soooo much more common than people realize. Please don't give up. My girlfriend had 1/

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

About 5 or so miscarriages before she finally had her son and then 2 years later had her daughter. It isn't over. Big hugs to you.

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I’m so so sorry to hear that. Truly. But please, seek help. 99.9% of the time, miscarriages are just dumb bad luck. It’s not your fault.

4 years ago | Likes 47 Dislikes 1

We apply such stigma to miscarriages and infertility. It’s so sad. They’re more common than most realize.

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Indeed. It’s a heartbreaker, and unfortunately it’s all too common for women to get scorn and shame rather than the sympathy and support-

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

They need.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I’m sorry for your loss. :( *prayers*

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I’m so so sorry you’re going through that. Is there anything I can do to help support you? Connect you with resources or anything?

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

My first pregnancy was a missed miscarriage- embryo stopped developing but body didn’t abort. Message me any time if you need to talk.

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

You are not alone. Please feel free to PM me, I just went through this 2 months ago and felt the same.

4 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

Love you sweets. Hang in there.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It happens so often that I’ve had 3 pregnancies full term and every SINGLE nurse and doc that asks how many miscarriages I’ve had asks

4 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

AGAIN when I say zero. Now that may not be true I may have miscarried super early but zero that I know of. And that is rare apparently

4 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

If it helps any: miscarriages ultimately happen because the fetus failed a QC checkpoint. Not you; you did absolutely nothing wrong. >

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

>Your body was just trying to keep YOU safe and sound, because YOU are important and worth saving.

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Same happened to me, my boss comment: count your blessings don't be down. I said uh i think I'll just be sad, my body prepped for a baby 1/

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

And hormones skyrocketed, now they are plummetting and i don't have no baby to be happy about, so I'll just be sad for a bit, my body 2/

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Doesn't care who is uncomfortable about it. Doesn't care if i understand, just sad. 3/3

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Wife went through 4 before we had our daughter. Worst experiences ever. Sending virtual hugs that I know don't help much.

4 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

You are not alone, ive had 3 and it doesn't get easier. Feel free to dm. But I understand the horrible feeling

4 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

I had one last year. It’s devastating but it’s not your fault. Give yourself time and talk to someone.

4 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 1

We had one late last year. Still not over it. I was blown away when I found out 1 in 4 pregnancy’s end in miscarriage! That’s a fucking huge

4 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 1

When my mom told me she was pregnant, she said she wasn’t supposed to tell anyone yet because she could still miscarry. My sister’s 17 now

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It’s so common, they told her to wait until she was 2 months (?). She also miscarried before me

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yup. Although those numbers have become somewhat bloated. Urine tests are SO good now, women can detect a lot of pregnancies before 1/2

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

They’re really real.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I can’t even begin to understand. I do know the easiest thing in the world is to find fault in yourself when you’re grieving. Sending love.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

1. I want to hug you. You are very much not alone in this. After my first mc I laid in bed for a week and hated my curtains for some reason.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

2. I watched Frost Nixon over & over & over. I don’t know why. I just wanted to die. I felt empty & useless & full of toxic failure.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

3. The very real loss & hormones are huge. It gets better though. It does. I had more mc after, but I also had 2 really great kids.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

4. I’m with you. Millions of women are. This is horrible, your grief is real & necessary & you are going to be OK.
