This is the new reality. Now we habe a "nice new world" with AI, like the "beautyful bill"

2 days ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

strictly speaking it was a rock collapse that caused it. but the collapse was likely a consequence of the glacial retreat.

3 days ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Common tragedy or Tragedy of the Commons?

3 days ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

The simple answer is, because it happened over there. It didn't happen directly to them or someone they are close with, so conservatives can comfortably ignore it.

3 days ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

And everyone just stands by watching it happen not doing a damn thing about it.

3 days ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

guess why the cheeto wants greenland ? its cool there and full of resources

3 days ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Well, it's not like it affects THEM.

It's over 1000 now, and they determined it was a landslide https://www.science.org/content/article/how-scientists-unraveled-cause-devastating-flood-tibet-and-nepal

That figure is pathetically low (not your post - the people who made that estimate) In just one of the often seen videos of a built up area, I was able to count over 100 people running past just as the flood hit and covered them at a totally unsurvivable depth. That was just in the few seconds on the video - who knows how many had already gone past. They will never know how many people died. Records gone, entire villages erased with no survivors to report those lost.

There are at least 30 million people in America who don't believe in climate change. So obviously this didn't happen... just ask them.

3 days ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

And they will build them where the climate is still most stable to maintain low operating costs...so they will take habitat/farmable land for it

They think their money will save them.

3 days ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The capitalists will sell tickets to the end of the world. Do not under estimate how little they care about anything but profit.
The only line they wont cross is the bottom line.

3 days ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

You should bring this up to the pro genai subreddits. They love to point out that data centers are less harmful than the meat industry. And while youll try to tell them that 1, that's still used to feed us, and 2 that should be changed too, and 3 that you reaaaaly don't need to add more shitty things at the time. They love to still berate you and yell that you are a pencilslopper that makes phalacies to argue them.

Funny we just had a visit from a company working with dominion energy. Stating electric will be going up and we are a company that is working them to see “how YOU can keep costs down.” We live in a house the size of most peoples garage in n. Va. And we have shitty adverts for Warren who is trying to get costs down bc he’s a piece of shit and needs something : anything to peddle…

Climate deniers - "I remember hot summers like this as a kid"...oh, you were measuring the average temperature of the oceans as a kid too? Dumb chucklefucks.

4 days ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I remember those too.. like when it snowed on midsummer day that one year (my kids were sure I was lying when I told this to them, had to dig old photos )
I also remember wearing winter clothes in july multiple times as a kid..
now its a unsure if we any snow in the winters

Cutting people's hearts out in the public square is oddly more honest than anything capitalism does.

3 days ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

They brought so much value to Aztec shareholders, you can't really blame them.

3 days ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Right idea, wrong targets. Forgivable, tho, since they didn't have billionaires back then.

4 days ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 3

Oh I thought they meant like the billionaires are happily sacrificing the Nepali people for their data centers. This the Aztec’s similarly sacrificed people, except they did it in person and directly instead of letting nature handling it. We haven’t changed as a species. Shit then, shit now.

They had Haves and Have Nots. People are people down through the ages, and some of those people were right shits.

We now have a bunch of people we could sacrifice in order to, literally, save us from the Sun's wrath. Crazy fucking bʼakʼtun we're living in. #fifthworldproblems

That some people don't understand how their quasi-idealistic opinions entitle them to create repostable opinions online for other people to fantasize about having an original thought is, well, expected. I'm not appalled by it at all. This is the world we live in. Stop trying to earn fake internet points and do something.

4 days ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 6

Direct action is obviously important but you telling people not to talk about the issues is asinine.

3 days ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Holy shit shut the fuck up

3 days ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Data centers by themselves aren't the issue. It's the electricity generation and cooling methods. If we required them all to use close-loop cooling and 100% renewable energy to power them it would solve a LOT of their issues.

4 days ago | Likes 34 Dislikes 6

From where a lot of regular people are standing day to day; yeah, they are, by every measurable human standard.

3 days ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Well they are using up valuable, finite resources here on Earth that we might need to get to space someday. Also they empower AI which hasn't been a net benefit for humanity.

3 days ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

They wouldn't exist if not for those problems. They exist specifically for the oligarch class and their AI bubble/fossil fuel stocks.

3 days ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

But…doesn’t that mean that data centers are the issue? There wouldn’t be a problem with the other things you’re saying if data centers weren’t a thing. It’s like saying guns don’t kill people…bullets do…so gun manufacturers aren’t held accountable.

3 days ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 1

Datacentres don't care what makes the energy, and neither does your plugin EV, microwave or airconditioner. If your power comes from carbon, then you have a problem - there are industrial processes that make CO2 and agriculture creates a lot of greenhouse gasses, making electricity without carbon is a fantastic (and relatively cheap) first step.

3 days ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

And it would do nothing to stop CO2 emissions, because that original message is mixing up different issues

3 days ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

Guess where a lot of the data centres' power comes from

3 days ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Because you let them. You vote for it against your own god damn interests because you're scared of trans and brown people.

3 days ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

Take this anger over to truth social or X..

3 days ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Are you crazy? WTF is wrong with you?

2 days ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

You said "you vote for it"

The US user base of imgur leans left.... We voted AGAINST this shit. Then Elon rigged the fucking election for trumplethinskin.

So take your anger to a social platform where your targets actually exist.

2 days ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You see, your problem is thinking that Elon rigged something. Elon is one person with one vote. There are hom many Americans with how many votes? Go out and vote and convice others to vote. I'm also left leaning and I'm not American and in my country the rightwing assholes are in power that I never voted for. But WE voted for them as a nation. And guess what, Trump is fucking up my lifestyle in my country. WE did it to ourselves!. You have to start thinking like that. Otherwise you just give up

2 days ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Because you start thinking they're all the same, you don't have no one to vote for, the other side is just a little bit less evil, not worth voting for. No, it is your duty to vote for the lesser evil! I stopped blaming politicians, courts and anyone else. VOTERS are the problem! They are the ultimate judge and correction method for corrupt government.

2 days ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Trump literally thanked him for rigging a state idiot.
