Right? Once they didn't all faceplant, that was my thought. It's fine with one or two people or a tube, but that's a lot of water to move and a lot of drag, and that boat's gotta have some muscle.
I'd imagine that physics does most of the work. Technically the boat isn't pulling anything of note at the start, so when it starts going, it can get to max speed pretty quick. After that, it's mostly momentum in the water that's propelling it forward. The wake is causing a ton of surface tension on their skis which are coated so there's hardly any friction which makes it easier to pull them.
I think the most power-demanding part of that is to pull them all off the deck at once. People riding skis across the water surface doesn't make _that_ much drag. But you can see the boat before they take off. It has 3 outboard motors
My Dad had a ski boat with two huge Yamahas, and it could pull 4 up out of the water at a time. One of his friends only used one ski except when he didn't use any. It just seems like when they hit the water, it would bog the boat down; if it built up any meaningful momentum using slack, it would snatch the ropes out of their hands.
