I took a train on Sunday. Amtrak was a fucking mess on the east coast. Some kind of power line problem around philadelphia. They suspended service between NYC and Philadelphia. There was a cascade of delays and cancellations. I got lucky. it took a lot longer than usual but I made it.

Meh, I never fly anywhere ever since they started using the x-ray machines on people. I got tired of being "randomly" selected to go through them EVERY SINGLE TIME I had to fly somewhere.

More likely it's a case of them being overworked and understaffed. They rarely schedule enough people for the workload as it is, because that lowers labor costs, and a lot of the few remaining have probably called out due to the holidays.

12 years, like how 12 years ago I bought concert tickets to Dream Theater from Ticketmaster, and just 3 months ago Ticketmaster let me know that all of my personal info from that transaction was stolen.

Does it happen in countries with better regulations? No. Grounding the entire fleet is a catastrophic failure of internal investments and systems, and the lack of US regulations requiring them to do said investments.

My small town was somehow able to maintain a regular daily line to 2 hubs from the regional airport. Now with 5x the population this is no longer financially viable and I get to drive 2h first if I want to fly. Makes perfect sense to me.
