I'm so SICK of tomato cages. I can't get a good read if these trellis types work well for determinate tomatoes with big honkin beefy reds. So I'm gonna shout about it here and keep a log of how they work or don't work.

These are great for green and yellow beans and cucumber. Try growing tomatoes at the side of your house with direct sunlight. Tomatoes love heat and planters are easier with tomatoes.

Lol this was taken at 8pm, it's a full sun yard, I've being growing a great tomato crop here for years.

I usually have more success with the round ones. Got my 1st set from a free pile and had to repair it.

Once the fruit starts to develop any traditional cages seem to collapse for me. Are yours those real sturdy thick ones?

Yeah the thin ones are only good for peas. I also use clips and sometimes string to help support the branches with fruit.

I've never used cages. I use hemp twine to tie them to bamboo stakes. The stakes are nearly a decade old and definitely showing wear, but they still dod the trick last year...

I get that for the main stalk but what do you do for the branches heavy with fruit?

Lol, this. I use bamboo everywhere(I can’t kill it fast enough, we’ve got about an acre’s worth spread around) and I use old paracord. Damn things work great.

This looks like a great solution for tomatoes or beans. I like it! Also, I like the cross-lap jointed planters. I may have to borrow this idea for my own gardening!
