I fulfilled a childhood dream this past weekend. I stood next to the baddest looking plane ever made. The SR71 Blackbird!

I literally just finished watching the entire xmen series on Hulu tonight

Air & Space Annex in Virginia, I actually prefer it to the Air & Space Museum in D.C.

They both have their draws.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Me too. So much more to see

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

They put all the lights on the ground around the jet so that people don't accidentally bump into it because of stealth.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

If Imgur calls the A10 "brrrrrt" can we call the SR-71 the "nyoom"?

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

I'm more interested in the legit fucking shuttle in the background!

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Just think, the people that made this didn't even have calculators. They used slide rules.

10 years ago | Likes 47 Dislikes 2

We should buy them calculators. Damn budget cuts.

10 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 0

Mechanical calculators were a thing, look up the Curta Calculator,

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

bet you a coke they didn't use them much making this

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

For the most part. Lockheed had a burgeoning computing department from the 1950s onwards, but the legions were mostly slapsticks, yeah.

As the grandson of a McDonnell engineer, don't forget the chalkboards and grease pencil on glass.

The Shuttle approaches from the rear to mate.

Other jets had counter measures for missle defense. The SR71 just outran anything shot at it.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I believe thats "Jetfire" an old cranky Decpticon masquerading as a Blackbird.

Did anyone else notice how they were in the museum in DC and then suddenly left the back door of the place and were in the desert of the SW?

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Who, inexplicably for a robot, walks with a cane and has a cough...

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

10 years ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 0

All the awesome facts about this plane and you just comment " The Blackbird" ! Cmon @OP!

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Fun fact Blackbirds leaked fuel on the runway and the procedure to counteract this was to just keep pumping fuel into the jet.

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

And they had shell develope a special fuel that was incredibly hard to ignite so the leaky fuel wasn't a huge fire hazard

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Another fun fact, right after taking off they would head off to be air refueled.
